Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza -- The 2016 Hunt Is Over!!!

We had no problem getting a map on Wednesday morning...and when my husband LOST it (not kidding) since I still had my receipt they graciously gave me a replacement. (This was at Oswald's. Same CM who sold me the original map.) We had a wonderful time, and it was great fun sharing tips and hints with other egg hunters. My daughter got the Tinker Bell prize egg, which made her day.

Did anyone go to the Easter cookie decorating demonstration in the Grand Californian Hotel lobby last week? I think it started on Thursday, 4/2, and lasted through Easter. Apparently there were samples given out at the demo.

They were still giving out prizes last night. I think the free maps were more like colored photo copies of the originals
I was surprised to see the eggs where taken down this morning (at least at Disneyland).
I am still sad I didn't get my Mr Toad egg. I just did't feel right asking a child to switch eggs with me.

Lol. True -- I know what you mean. I wouldn't have had the heart to ask a child to swap eggs either. I, too, would have wanted Mr. Toad.

The photocopies of the maps -- if they were copies -- would explain the lack of stickers.

I am not too surprised at the eggs being taken down right after Easter. They're not put up as seasonal décor. They are only put up for the purpose of the Egg-stravaganza, so to keep them up longer might confuse guests into thinking that maps and stickers were still available and that the hunt was still officially going on.

We went to Disney Showcase (?) on Main Street about 20 minutes after 8 and they had a CM at the door telling us that the maps were sold out. Regardless, we had a great time.
It was more of a "normal" Disneyland trip and not specific to Easter, but oh well.

The maps were sold out on Easter morning? Did you try for a map in DCA too?

I know Disneyland still had egg prizes as of 8 am Easter morning. There were limited choices available , but they still had them. We were able to sweet talk the manager into swapping out our eggs with different ones. We had gotten Thumper and the White Rabbit on Friday at DL, then we did the hunt on Saturday in CA and they said the only eggs they had left were Thumper and White Rabbit. I was really glad we were able to swap out on Sunday. We ended up with Mr. Toad and Goofy to go with the Thumper and White Rabbit we already had. So that worked out nicely.

It sure did! I think that the prize eggs had better characters this year than last year. Last year, there was no option (at least not for me) for Mr. Toad, Thumper or the White Rabbit. I would have chosen any one of those characters over the ones I got.

I am shocked that there was no Olaf prize egg this year??

You have now experienced Halloween Time fun, Holiday season/Christmas fun and Easter/Springtime fun at Disneyland Resort in less than one year - which has been your favorite season at DLR so far?

Oh goodness...it sounds like I might have offended you with my statement about the eggs being in new places this year. I was only meaning to confirm that yes, I agree, they appeared to be in different spots. I'm sorry if I came off sounding rude or combative. :o Or, maybe I'm being over-sensitive to your reply. It's been a weird morning.

No, no, no -- you didn't offend me at all! (Don't you hate the Internet sometimes, as it's so hard to tell what someone's 'tone' is in print? Lol.) I didn't think of your comment as rude in any way, shape or form. I just happened to notice that there was a Ghirardelli egg location this year, and there was one last year as well. (I didn't indicate where some of the eggs were located in my posts on page 1. Some of them were obvious, but others were not as obvious.) But I think you're absolutely right -- from the photos I have seen of this year's hunt, it appears that the majority of the hiding places were new and only one or two may have been repeated.

I think that was kind of how it worked in 2014 as well. I did not do the hunt in 2013 (and that one was only in California Adventure, not in Disneyland), but from what I read/was told, it seemed that a couple of the DCA hiding spots from 2013 were repeated in 2014 (one of the repeats was a spot in the Pacific Wharf area -- which was new to me in 2014 because I hadn't done the hunt in the previous year). I had a feeling that at least one location from 2014 would be repeated this year, though I was hoping that the majority of the hiding spots were all new, and it sounds/looks as if as if they were.

We did the hunt at DCA on good Friday. We actually redeemed for the prize first. We did actually finish the hunt, but did not feel rushed to do so, since my DD had the prize in hand already. It was a good time and hopefully one we can do again in the future.

I think that more people will have to start employing that tactic of getting the maps and prizes right up front. They can't guarantee that the maps, stickers or prizes will be available if they wait -- but the one element that will not disappear before Easter will be the hidden eggs! Those eggs will stay put for the full 10 days or whatever the time frame is, and there is no time limit to locating them so there is no great rush.

Kristina --

It sounds like it was a successful hunt! Did your daughter also enjoy all of the Frozen Fun?

I wonder if anyone encountered any of the aggressive egg hunters like the ones I encountered last year (the ones who were annoyingly crawling into my personal space to get to an egg in a window display) -- or if everyone was on their best behavior when closing in on a target?

Sherry, it has sure been a great Disney year, and it is not over yet! My brother asked me to talk our mom into taking another trip. After the Halloween trip last year, she said she wouldn't be going again. She didn't think she could handle it. I talked her into it, so we are now booked for May 28th to June 1st to check out the 60th anniversary stuff!

So far, the best time for low crowds was late January. I don't know if I can pick a favorite! I love it all!

Sorry, Sherry, I can't seem to pull out the quote I want. We did not make it to DCA until much later in the day and I did not ask anyone, so I am sorry I don't know whether they had maps over there or not.

So the parks blog just announced that the egg hunt is back this year and posted the dates, 3/2-3/27. I got excited because we will be there 3/13-3/17, but then I looked at info on the last couple of years -the maps sold out within a week! is there anyway to buy the maps the day they go on sale without visiting the park? I'd hate to miss out on something that is occurring right during our trip because Disney either doesn't produce enough of the "prizes" or doesn't do enough to limit the purchases.

Hopefully they'll produce more of them this year given that the event is lasting longer! Last year's event started on Mar 27 and ended on Apr 5, so it only lasted 10-days. This year's event starts on 3/2 and ends on 3/27 (Easter Sunday), so it 26-days long. Hopefully that means they'll make more maps (and prizes) this year. Not to mention, they've added a third hunt to DLR (DL, DCA, and now DTD).

Question - when you redeem your map - do they collect it? Or do they just mark that you redeemed it and then you can keep it?

They put a stamp on the back indicating the prize has been redeemed, but you get to keep the map and stickers. Last year, you didn't even have to finish the map before collecting your prize. Some CMs were actually recommending that you go get the prize right after buying the map, then going to do the quest so that you avoided the long redemption lines later in the day. It was a good tip because in the morning the lines were pretty short (<5 people), but by late afternoon, I saw the line snaking out the door at Elias & Co (so at least 20+ people long).

I am so in for this again -- I wonder if they'll do the special deal where you can buy all the potential eggs for a set price.

It depends...last year, some folks reported being able to get a full set of eggs when they took all six of the maps up to the redemption location at one time. I know that when I went to redeem my maps, they had the prize eggs hidden under larger plastic eggs and you selected an egg and got the prize. So, if you had all six maps, you could just select each egg on the table once and theoretically get a full set. Hopefully, they'll have something like that again this year so that guests that are willing to buy 6 maps can get all six eggs.

I'm so excited to see it's returning...now, just waiting to see if the "springtime round-up" of bunny characters will be back. My girls & I have our fingers crossed that they will use Pooh's meet & greet for 3 bunnies at a time :)

I had always planned to resurrect this thread for this year's Egg-stravaganza, and I am doing that -- although I didn't think that we would have info on this year's event so early! The first 2 posts on page one give an overall, general, pictorial guideline as to how the hunt works, and I updated some of the details here and there to reflect this year's changes (hopefully I caught everything I had intended to change). You can also read some of the comments from last year's egg seekers, to learn about different people's experiences.

At first I did not want spoilers (locations of eggs) revealed in the thread. The egg hunt is mostly very easy, and there would not be much challenge left if the eggs' locations were revealed or even vaguely hinted at. But it seemed that -- despite the general ease of the egg locating -- most people wanted spoilers. So, if that's what people want, then spoilers for this year's hunt will be allowed too -- but I would suggest that you preface whatever you are revealing with a spoiler warning -- just in case someone doesn't want to know and wants to tune out or momentarily look away.

The first time I read the Parks Blog posting, I thought the DTD map was for WDW so that each resort had two locations, but then when I looked closer I realized there were going to be three locations for DLR! That should be fun. I wonder if DTD will have any "unique" eggs like they did last year for each park (e.g., Mater and McQueen were only hidden in DCA). It should be fun!

Are the egg locations generally different year to year?

The majority of them are different from year to year, which is a good thing as it will keep people coming back to do the hunt each year -- though, as I mentioned on page 1, it seemed like one or two of the 2015 locations were the same or very close to a couple of them from the previous year or two, from what I could tell.

This year, of course, DTD is being added into the mix, and that is what I have been hoping for all along. More egg locations. I think that the 3 hotels will be included in the DTD hunt.

I hadn't heard of this before. We'll be there February 29th-March 3rd. We'll get to spend the last two days of our trip hunting :) Is the egg you receive as a prize empty? Or does it have a treat inside? I think my son would be disappointed to receive an empty egg, so I might sneak something in there when we redeem our map.

So far, the prize eggs are empty (and small). The variety of prize character eggs was slightly different last year too, from what the 2014 selection was.

A couple of weeks ago I had planned to get this thread going again, but I was not sure when the Parks Blog would announce the info for this year and didn't want to jump the gun. I'm glad they did it now and people can start planning!

We will be there the weekend starting March 18. I hope they still have the maps because while my adult kids are riding rides, I can wander and soak up the atmosphere, and find eggs! I am assuming that there will not be a Springtime Round-up, but decorating cookies at the GCH would be fun, too! I'll keep watching this thread to see what springtime activities pop up. Thanks for doing this thread, too, Sherry!
