Eggnog

I love eggnog and have discovered DD does too. I do thin the purchased nog out a bit by mixing 2 parts nog to 1 part milk. I've also been mising equal parts milk, Oregon Chai and eggnog for a hot drink that is very tasty.

For those concerned about egg safety there are eggnog recipes that cook the mixture. Here's one that sounds pretty good:

Now, a question in return. Does anyone like a drink called Tom & Jerry? We had these as kids (non-alcoholic, of course). It's something like a hot eggnog but sweeter and put in hot water (with rum & brandy for those of the appropriate age).

I love eggnog. I buy a local brand at the store.

I like mine with Amaretto Di Saronno:D

I've always used rum, but I think I'm going to try it your way! Sounds yummy!

LisaZoe - my grandmother in MN used to make Tom & Jerry's for the holiday season. It was always spiked so I never tried it, but it looked a lot like eggnog.

I LOVE egg nog but rarely have even a sip because there's so much sugar in it. I'd love a sugar-free/articificially sweetened version. :)

YUM - I love eggnog.

We have a daiquiri shop here that makes frozen eggnog daiquiris with Southern Comfort. They should be out next week. I can't wait!

My MIL purchased eggnog in the carton and folded in eggnog ice cream and genuine whipped cream. No calories at all.

Their other products are great, VERY tasty, regular milk, chocolate milk, OJ and grapefruit juice. I see the ehhnog is in selected markets. Hmmmmm, Wisconsin.
Woooooow!! Thank you, Dan!! :teeth: :Pinkbounc Now, who can I get to send it from NY or New England? I'll have to put on my thinking cap...My friend, Kim, lives in MA!! I'll be e-mailing her shortly. :)

Thanks, Dan!!!

I LOVE eggnog including eggnog milkshakes and eggnog ice cream. A friend of mine always serves her eggnog with a splash of bourbon....yum....it'll really knock your socks off! :teeth:

Thanks for the recipes! :D

I noticed some put rum in the eggnog, what about Kahlua or Baileys?

Those sound so good. Can you send me one? I love eggnog. Publix has the best eggnog. It is good and thick. The lowfat tastes horrible. My holiday treat is eggnog with some Crown Royal in added. I have already gone through a gallon of it. DH is lactose intolerant so he can't drink it anymore.

Have ya'll heard Steve Martin's version of Silver Bells? He talks about "eggnog and ____" and goes through about every alcohol that exists - with funny/strange family stories intermingled. It is the funniest song.

I survived my first holiday (Thanksgiving) with my then future inlaws drinking homemade eggnog milkshakes - really good ice cream, eggnog and Black Jack. I'll have to search our specialty stores and see if other Carb Alternative companies have something out I can have this year. Either that or if I really do deliver on the 29th everyone cross your fingers the Gestational Diabetes goes away before the stores sell out!!!!!!

Okay, thank you everyone for making me go out and buy eggnog!

I coudln't believe the huge variety they had this year, an entire refridgerated case of eggnog!

They had regular egg nog, vanilla egg nog, light egg nog, low carb egg nog, fat-free sugar-free egg nog flavored drink, soy egg nog, light soy egg nog, and two flavors of Southern Comfort egg nog (regular and vanilla spice). We just moved to NY but last year when I looked in MD we had two kinds of egg nog, regular and light. I almost became dizzy from the choices.

I was boring and stuck with light.

love eggnog, too! it's not christmas without a big cup of it with nutmeg sprinkled on top =)

i just buy the kind in the carton at the store =) YUM

love eggnog. I'll have to look for the light stuff because I always "water" it down with milk.

I like to add a touch of Southern Comfort to my eggnog -- I have entitled that particular drink "Christmas in Atlanta". Funny thing -- the Southern Comfort "flavoured" eggnog that I can buy at the supermarket just doesn't have the same effect.

DW hates the stuff -- she won't even buy it, I have to make my own trip to the store to get it. Bring on the 'nog!!
