I have never exactly figured out what is the best way to utilize these. Any suggestions? I have often been told that it is best to visit a different park from where they are offered because it will probably be less crowded. Also, what is the deal with the early opening of fantasyland in the September?

I was there in January and the parks were dead. But on the EMH night, the park (Epcot this time) was pretty busy. You have to figure that people are going to go to the park with EMH. So I would avoid them. If you still need to be at a park later then I would hop to the EMH park just for the EMH hours. What you need to do is see the regular park hours for your trip and if they are long enough then just avoid EMH altogether. But if you would really enjoy utilizing EMH the go. (also, maybe go just for the opening to get on those "have to do" rides, then switch parks.)

The fantasyland thing doesn't have much info, but on Disneyworld.com it is under Magical Beginnings... Here is a link if it works...

I only have experience with the morning EMH, never really used the night time EMH, other than going into the MK at 2 am while there at Easter. For the mornings, and this was at Easter, the MK and Epcot were great. Get there a bit before opening and you will be able to get a lot done before the parks get crowded. At AK it was a complete mess. No control of who got in, no checking of resort ids, only a few turnstyles open, took close to an hour just to get in. Did not do MGM. But the MK especially was magical. We have pictures where we are the only ones around. Got to ride everything we wanted by 11 with no waiting. At Epcot it was also great, no lines for Soarin and test track, got to do each of them twice.
The thing at fantasy land is for families with young children.

I agree with the previous posters. We've had good luck with the morning EMH, especially at MK. Most of the rides were walk-ons, even when we got there a half hour late. This was last April.

Evening EMH do seem to ensure that the park will be more crowded during the day. We have younger children, so getting up early in the morning isn't a problem. Staying up late at night is, so we usually don't take advantage of the extra evening hours anyway, and we do avoid the evening extra hours park, unless we get there right at opening and then leave at around noon. We are big fans of park-hopping.
