I saw that on our local newspaper's web site and just the title alone almost got me sick. Funny thing is that I shop at that chain, but I have never ordered from the bakery. I just get certain items there like soda (Pepsi for DH) b/c they always have a sale on them and other items that are the Food Club brand (like their napkins). The bulk of my shopping is now done at Shop Rite.

I used to work at a large national supermarket chain. Believe me, you would not want to go into the off-limits area of these stores. One of my jobs was to prepare the food for the salad bar and many was the time I had rats running against the walls while I sat with my feet up as high on the stool as I could get them while I chopped the veggies and fruit. I didn't last long at this job.

So it doesn't surprise me that one would get into the cake batter.

I clicked on the link, and it popped to a tab, and when I saw the title of the tab....I was like..."Nope."

Then I read subsequent comments.

I would like to read the comments of the cake buyer and the store, but there is no amount of curiosity that could make me want to see that.

I didn't think to report it at the time, no. I was sixteen and it was my first job. I actually quit three weeks after beginning because the back areas were so disgusting.

I'll tell you a few things I learned:

Never get a salad from the salad bar. Never eat any fruit or veggie without thoroughly washing them because they sit in their crates back with the rodents and bugs before being wheeled out to the display areas. And lastly, NEVER buy any meat that says "Meat Manager's Special" on the wrapper. I was told that by one of the butchers. It's priced for quick sale because it's about to go off.

And yet you can clearly see that the black... object is BAKED INTO THE CAKE. Gross.
