EEC - Running with your camera?

I have seen many great pics of people while running various races. How do you carry your camera? Do you put it in something and carry it?

I would imagine it being annoying to do so, but since this is my first Disney race, I would love to have it along.

BUT, for those who ran this race last year, are there even any photo good ops along the way?

I love having my camera with me! If I am tired and having a bad day, it stays put, if not, I love documenting fun races. I have an amphipd belt and their small carrying case fits my camera perfectly. It will slide on any race belt.

For the half last January I wore a fuel belt that had 2 water bottles on it. I was able to attach my camera case to the belt. I'm glad I had it with me for my first Disney race.

I can't stand having the belt around my waist anymore so I've been running with a handheld water bottle (it has a little pouch on it that holds my keys/phone) but isn't big enough for a camera. I haven't decided if it's worth figuring out how to bring a camera along this year without the fuel belt.

I had the same question about how to carry a camera when I was getting ready for the Princess 1/2. I don't carry water during races so I ended up buying an iFitness waist pack just for my camera. A Spibelt would probably also work. I don't like the belt showing up in my race photos, so I wear it under my shirt with the pack in the back. It gets sweaty, but it doesn't bounce or bother me at all while I'm running. The only thing is that it got a little annoying always taking it out and putting it away all the time. I've read that some people have cameras small enough that they can carry them in a skirt pocket (like the skirts from runningskirts.com that have the side pockets) but I've never tried that. For the Disneyland 1/2 last weekend, I didn't even bother with the waist pack and just carried the camera in my hand the entire time. I liked having it easily accessible and it wasn't annoying at all to me.

Thanks for all of the ideas! I don't have a small point and shoot anymore so hopefully I can ask my sister if we can bring hers.

Where is the best place to buy one of these packs/race belts? I want to try and find one right away so I can wear it before I head down for the race to try and get used to it.

I bought a belt for my camera, but ended up carrying it in my hand for the entire full for Goofy (and several halfs). It's a small inexpensive digital. It doesn't annoy me at all and I love my pictures. You just have to be careful about which hand you use to grab water.

Isn't EEC at night? When my daughter and I did ToT, I couldn't take "action shots" for fear of blinding people behind us, but we did a lot of silly posing at mile markers. It was worth it to me. (I don't know if you'll see any characters, but if you do the races with characters, there's always a castmember to take a photo, but it has to be with your camera).

CoP - You can get them at most runnign stores. I think DIck's has them. If there is an expo for another race, that's a great palce too. If not, tri runningwarehouse.com

Last year, I bought a cheap, small digital camera and put it in my waistpack. The pictures came out awful - the camera ended up being a piece of junk. This year I'm thinking of just bringing my cell phone to take a few pics along the way.

I'm running EEC too for the first time. I'm bringing my very small video camera and plan on running while holding it. It has a wrist strap so I shouldn't drop it. Hopefully it won't annoy me, I know it couldn't make my time any slower!

Another thought - If you plan to take pix ont eh fly, Image Stabiliazation works wonders. Had my best pix this year not that I have a camera with IS.

I kept my camera in my amphipod for EEC. I didn't take any, I think I forgot I had it LOL But I'm sure you can find plenty of locations to take photos ;) One thing I would mention for those planning on carrying the camera for EEC is the obstacles. I have NOT kept up on what is planned for this year but we had the cargo net to climb up and over while not to hard (except for my fear of being at the top LOL) it might be difficult to climb and hold a camera. Then again I was nervous about the height thing so maybe its just me with the death gripe on the ropes. Oh and the hurdles. Kinda figure out how you will handle those things with a camera in hand.

They might not do the cargo net or do it differently this year but there was a lot of people on it while I was climbing it (you can see last years photos on ASI)

Having a camera even at the end is nice for post-race photos. But I could see taking photos as you scavenger and pull off during the 5K and take a photo like Jenn did with the mile markers or other things on the course.

Hope you all have a blast! It was a great race! We took photos the next day of where all our scavenger hints were. We were somewhat worried about time which is probably the real reason my camera stayed put during the actual race. I had a strained calf and it was DH's 1st Disney race.

I'm sure if there is a will there is a way :thumbsup2

Oh the 'people' where what we saw on the course. The 2 expedition people who were out to give a hand on directions (characters) and what is her name Susie or something that tends to be at the start of all the races? She's got long blond hair? She was all done up in a pink snow/ski outfit last year. She was out on the course towards the finish when we went thru for the 5K. The other 2 Exp Character people we spotted as we started the 5K by the Tree of Life, I think they moved around a bit more. They were dressed cute and would have made a nice photo op :thumbsup2

I just bought a sport skort at target for 19.99 it has a small front pocket that my camera fits in. I will probably put a pin on it since it doesnt close, but the skort is VERY comfortable. I may end up wearing to the parks it is so comfortable. Good luck
