I saw on another board (gasp!)
that there may be a bit of a fit issue on the new EE ride at AK for us
non willowy
less than svelte
pleasingly plump
packing on a few
folks.
Anyone been on... Is it true?

there have been afew posts that it is somewhat challengeing for the poofy but there are seats out of the way so you can try them before hand( like that isn't embarassing enough) and so far i think everyone who has posted has been able to ride..you can go to allearsnet.com, they have a place for disney at large that tells about that issue

Rode it a few times and found it no tighter than Big Thunder Mountain

I was worried but werode 10 times in April. Each time we saw VERY large people getting on with little problem. We never saw anyone turned away.

It is an incredible coaster!!! :bounce:

just remember - it's for your own safety.

I witnessed a tirade from a "pooh sized" woman at Cedar Point last year when she was denied riding Top Thrill Dragster. She even produced her "seatbelt extended" and they still would not let her ride.

yes, it's sad (not in a pathetic way...in a truely sad way) that these coasters can't accomodate ALL sizes...but it IS for ones safety

I read an article in a magazine(I think it was AAA) that said the average adult ride is designed for a person that is 170 lbs and that basically if you're not 170 (either higher or lower) you are taking a risk. Dh and I are coaster enthusiats so we go to alot of parks and ride alot of rides and when we're in line, we are mostly surrounded by teenagers who don't weigh 170. Dh dosen't weigh 170 and I don't either so i guess we're in the risktaker category.

I for one would be COMPLETELY embarrassed if I got all the way through the line and then couldn't ride because of my weight. At Silver Dollar City last year, the seats for the Powder Keg looked a little small. They had a "trial" one sitting RIGHT OUT FRONT. Needless to say, I didn't try and I didn't ride. My solution is getting this weight off me!!!

A bit nervous here as we arrive at WDW on May 18 and we are dying to ride EE. We have no trouble with any other ride at WDW. Hubby is 6'2" and around 295. I'm a size 26...5'9"...no way I'm revealing weight! Anway, most that I've read indicates that we should be fine, but I'm always a little nervous about a new ride. I promise to report back with details.

From what I understand there is a seat that you can try out before entering the queue.

thanks guys - I'll go celebrate with some cheese cake!

I fit just fine at 5'4" and size 18, however, honestly I do not think I would get offended if a CM would not let me ride because I did not fit. It's for my own safety and maybe if my weight becomes that big of an issue where it was truly denying me from having any fun at the parks then I suppose it would be an even bigger incentive to lose some weight. :)

There is no real comparison between the bar restraints on BTMRR and EE.

BTMRR: Bar "Rocks back and forth". One bar. Shared by both side-by-side riders.

EE: Bar "Archs up and down". Two bars. One for EACH side-by-side rider.
The EE bars ratchet DOWN into your lap (top of your thighs).
If you have a Pooh-Tummy, it can be a very snug fit... might take some careful squeezin' and re-arrangin'.

I was down on the DVC/AP preview, and there were riders having trouble making the "squeeze".
I have read that Disney made some modifications thereafter so that the bar would "lock" at a higher position.
Hope that's the case.

Many Americans tend to be a bit large, so I cannot imagine Disney making a an adult thrill ride that could not accommodate most people in the country.

I agree, and that WAS the case before EE was "sneaked".
The problem was that early-on, EE was VERY SNUG for larger guests.
(It took a loading CM's full weight to help PUSH DOWN the bars to "click-in" for some riders.)

But, I know that the design COULD be adjusted (the bar could have had more "ratchet-lock" positions in its "travel"),

I HEARD that is was adjusted,

but I don't KNOW FOR A FACT that it was adjusted.

What I DO know, is that there have been no posts here or on "WDW at Large" since the Official Opening from guests who did NOT fit EE.

This is a good sign.

Actually PowderKeg at SDC is very accomodating to larger sized people, I've never seen anyone turned away and I've been there about 4-5 times. You should try it, its a GREAT ride.

Ohio and Cedar Point are kind of unique circumstances, as Ohio Law dictates that amusement parks MUST follow any specifications dictated by the manufacturer. In the case of Top Thrill and Millinium Force (SP?) they are both Intamin rides, and Intamin is NOT known for accomodating larger riders.
Its really sad. Same thing for B&M's such as Hulk and Dueling Dragons.

Vekoma who manufactured Everest and Rockin' Roller Coaster is actually pretty decent, I think the child companies of Arrow Dynamics are all pretty accomodating (Arrow Dynamics/Vekoma/S&S/Morgan) because Arrow when it was around was an American company, so is S&S (UTAH) and Morgan (KANSAS). S&S built PowderKeg, Morgan built Wild Thing/Steel Force/Mamba. Arrow built all those old steel loopers you see out there, plus Pirate of Caribbean and Matterhorn. Originating in the US gives them a better insight I think.

So like always BUY AMERICAN!

Florida B&M's don't have the seats to accomodate larger people on the trains?

I went on this in March 5-6 times with a 10yo next to me and I am a 5ft4 size 28-30 and I had no trouble at all !! I think anyone who wants to ride this will be fine. And yes I know I am large... I have had 6 kids in 10 years and am now starting to fight back all the fun and fudge I had last decade..... I figure I will be close to normal in 10 or so years .....Ha HA :rotfl2:

I believe (and someone correct me if I am wrong) that both IOA B&M's don't have the seats for those of a larger size. Actually they only started adding those recently, to coasters I believe built in the last two years or so. B&M's are incredibly comfortable rides, but just like most other european coaster designers they have the problem with building coasters for those of larger sizes. The only european coaster designer that didn't seem that have that problem was Schwartzkopf (Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa, Sooper Dooper Looper at Hersheypark, Whizzer at Six Flags Great America) and his rides are a vanishing breed sadly.

As a pooh-sizer myself and this being my first trip, I have a lot of anxiety about ALL the rides. I did, however, read a tip (don't remember where) from someone who is "metabolically challenged" about EE.

A CM recommended to her to lock the bar first and then kind of squish your rear end down and under the bar. I'll be trying it myself.

Maybe I should just go on a diet :confused3

On our first trip in 2004, I too was worried about all the rides. (DH & I both are Pooh sized) We rode every ride at every park (except kiddie rides) I was really worried about Rock n Rollercoaster but both of us fit fine. Enjoy your first trip. :sunny:
