I have planned and paid for our trip to Disneyworld, and now I find out that the start date for school is 2 days AFTER we leave for our vacation.

The principal told me that my DS could write her a paper about what he learned while in Florida. We are not going to Epcot (at least not planning on it), but we are doing the magic kingdom, MGM and a disney cruise to Nassau and Castaway Cay.

What kind of topics can he write about these areas? This way, he has to catch up on his backwork when he gets home, but the principal said she would accept this in lieu of making all of his grades zeroes while we are gone.

FYI: I have checked into changing the dates, but the cost to do so would be $500 more and I will definitely NOT have that kind of money to change the dates.

Thanks for you help.

Rhonda,
I am not sure how old you son is, but here are some ideas. There are several attractions at MK that have been there since opening, have your son ask for interesting facts from CM's. Also there are lots of learning opportunities to explore on your cruise culture in Nassau, galley tour on the ship, see if you can meet with someone on the cruise to give info relating to how the ship opperates. I hope this info is helpful and remember you will have a wonderful time with your son and make great family memories. Have a wonderful trip.

Also don't know how old your son is but...On the ship he could write a report about tides and how the boat floats- he could include pictures of the boat. And in the Magic Kingdom- let him wear a pedomitor. He could calculate how many steps he took over x-day period by adding them up...In MGM they have the discover animation tour where you can make a disney character to take home(another project to show at school) Have fun!

Perhaps you could get DS involved with the budgeting process for the trip. I know our nephew had to do a project for school about this aspect of a trip. He could create a budget before he ever leaves and then compare actual amounts spent during the trip.

There are plenty of things to learn at AK. Have him research a certain type of animal and find out as much as possible about that animal, what they eat, habitat, etc.

Our DD has always done a photo journal with each trip. She writes a page or so in a notebook about what we did each day and when we come home we add digital photos so she can take it to school right away.

Take a look at some of the details in the various attractions. You could do a super report on the little details Disney adds to all their attractions. My DH has even created a group of pictures of the lampposts used in various areas around WDW. The way they theme things is incredible. Don't overlook the obvious things because they can be fascinating.

These are just a couple "off the wall" ideas that sprang to mind. Hope they help. ::MinnieMo

For the cruise portion, DS could write about ocean life or the natural history of the area you are in.

Keeping a journal, writing stories or poems, drawing what he saw during the trip.

Write about how the monorail works.
