eczema..........

first of,if this is not the right place for this thread please feel free to move it.....


My DS suffers from eczema.it has gotten worst this last year but really bad this last month.he has a steroid cream i use (very sparingly) but i am looking for a good every day emoliant.

i have tried every one i can find in the uk so im casting my net state side.

any help would be most appreciated.

Don't know about eczema, but for psoraisis there's a really excellent one made by Burts Bees (can you get that there?) that has a coconut oil base. It comes out of the tube looking like an ointment, but it absorbs fairly quickly and does a wonderful job. Its called Coconut Foot Cream with Vitamin E, but it can easily be used on all rough body parts, trust me!

Our daughter suffered terribly from eczema from infancy until she was about 4, our saving grace was the baby line of products from SebaMed. Hard to come by in our parts, but did manage to find one pharmacy and would clean them out of all baby products when we went in. Highly recommended by our family doctor and it worked great for us. There are a LOT of Burt's Bees products, you may want to PM Momelie (if she doesn't reply to the thread) to see which specific product she uses.

According to Burt's Bees website, most of the Walgreen's drug stores carry some of their products. I know Whole Foods markets also caryy some Burt's products. The problem may be finding the exact cream or ointment you want.

I got mine at a health food store, but I've also seen them in Publix. Its about $8-10 for a large tube, and mine lasts nearly a year.

If you want to PM me, and let me know when you'll be here, and what transportation you'll have, I can make some calls and find out which retailers that carry this product are close to Disney, and let you know the results.

BTW, my great grandfather emigrated from Scotland - he was from just south of Aberdeen, and loved to tell everybody his stories.

My DS8 and I both are prone to excema, especially in the dry winter. We swear by Aquaphor ointment. Just slather away! You can get it at any US pharmacy (CVS, etc.)

My DD had it terribly as a baby and we used Eucerin cream all over her body and a mixture of 50% Eucerin and 50% hydrocortizone on affected areas. Make sure you get the thick Eucerin in the tub, not the lotion. The pediatrician also prescribed Elidel and it worked well, but we used it very sparingly because it was a fairly new drug at the time. There may be more information about it now.

Also, we learned that we were bathing our DD too often and it was drying her skin. We went to 2-3 times/week for baths and that in itself helped. Use fragrance free soap, we still use fragrance free Dove, and apply the Eucerin when the skin is still damp. Good luck to you. If it helps, my DD is 6 and last winter she had just a couple of times that her cheeks broke out and it went away quickly. Each year it has gotten better!

My youngest has eczema. He was so smooth when he got here in January and then he had some type of rash outbreak and then the problem started. Aquaphor didn't help a lot. The ped. prescribed something (non-steroidal) that didn't help a lot. I tried California Baby products and that didn't really help. I started using only Baby Bees (by Burt's Bees) bath products and lotion and that has helped. It has been a little worse recently because of having to use sunblock on him (doctor says that is irritating). But for a while, his skin was perfect. I am hoping once we can lay off the sunblock it will get better again. Ped. also said chlorine can cause problems, so if the child is swimming alot it can cause problems.

If the Burt's Bees doesn't work, try these. Either Palmer's Olive Butter Cream with Vitamin E ($5 at any Walmart/Target/Walgreen's). It comes in a white pump bottle with a green label. Or Udderly Smooth Udder Balm in a white cow print tube ($3) or tub ($5). Now, I know the Udderly smooth sounds disgusting , and I admit that I was hesitant to try it, but it works. DS and DD both have horrible skin in the winter. DS itches so much it breaks the skin. Both of these work great for us. Good luck!

my sons skin had a very bad reaction to sun cream last vacation.it ended up infected and his skin is still scared.we have got him a rash guard for the water parks so to cut down on the sun cream.to be fair living in Scotland the sun is not so much of a problem.......

as for the swimming he loves it,so we keep trips to a max 30mins and shower right after.my sons big problem is his eczema seems to be triggered but his emotions.any time he is excited(or worried) about any thing it flares up," so birthdays,christmas and trips to "the World " are prime times.

i have gotten some great help on this thread so the cases will be full of cream going home.........Thanks every one.

I have eczema since I was a kid and my second son has it too. My boy's condition has improved after he started using Sebamed baby bath and shampoo. Not sure if they sell it where you live. I have been using Sebamed liquid soap for washing my hands too and I have been "Ezcema free" for a few years now.

Recently, I come across this organic range of toiletories by the brand name GAIA. It's a product from Australia, and all organic and mild. Its Soothing Cream is especially effective.

I found something new that so far is working great for my little one! It is called Dermarest Medicated Eczema Cream. I got it at drugstore.com but I'm sure other places carry it. The redness was gone in just one day! And the dry patches are slowly clearing up. I really hope this stuff keeps working! So far so good though.

dd 2 has had it since birth and we tried all the creams and I found that diaper rash cream works the best also it cost the least.

But we were also told to use CETAPHIL soap and body wash, and then CETAPHIL cream. You can buy it in any pharmacy or Wal-Mart. The trick is to leave them with water on the skin (don't try and rub) and apply the lotion, which with the water creates a barrier. She has been eczema free for a while. Chlorine water is bad - that's why we went with a salt pool, it works better.

Also, try cotton clothing and nothing too tigh on the skin so it is not chafed and rubbed.

Another successful user of Eucerin cream here. DD had bad eczema when she was a baby and a toddler. The cream works the best, but we did use the lotion daily all over the body with the cream on the bad areas. Luckily she has outgrown the condition!
