Our family is going back to Disney for yet another family trip (our 3rd this year). Although we are veterans of the park, I never really had a reason to take note of what attractions were handicapped accessible. DH has to use an ECV when we travel due to back and leg problems. For our next trip, we have decided to do attractions that we normally skip. So that got me to thinking how we have not done the train at MK since DH has had to use the ECV (about 4 years now). I think of the train and all I can think of is the stairs at the beginning of Main Street. Is this an ECV friendly attraction and if so, can he board at Main Street (like is there an elevator)?

I don't know about ECVs, it does accomodate standard wheelchairs in the very first car, and he may need to transfer. There is a wheelchair ramp to the station. If you are on Main Street, facing the station, the ramp is on the far right hand side, tucked behind the bank building.

No, he will have to transfer. The OP was right about the area of the ramp. There is no elevator, just the ramp, and be carefule walking behind him, because if he has to stop, ther ECV will roll backwards even if he is stopped.

Thanks so much for the info. :flower3: I guess I now know why I didn't remember seeing the handicapped access with it tucked away like that. Does anyone know if there is a place DH can leave his ECV once he is up the ramp? He is able to transfer out and then we could just ride the train full circle, collect his ECV and go about our park touring if that is the case.

DH has his own scooter back at home...yup, we know all about them rolling back on the inclines...and heaven forbid you hit the bar on the back, then the thing doesn't work at all. We usually try to stay along side or ahead of DH and thankfully, it seems most other folks know to give him a little room too. ;)

When you reach the top of the ramp, you will be at the loading platform(about 3 feet above the actual staion level) for the train car. Keep going past that, down to the station level, and there will be a parking/transfer to w/c area.

::yes::
We have waited there sometimes when there were too many wheelchairs/ECVs to fit on the train. There is enough space for several ECVs to be parked in that area.

Okay, I think we can manage that! We don't mind waiting if we have to. This was the only thing in all the parks that I wasn't sure about. I feel better in knowing that DH can enjoy this now. Thanks! :upsidedow

Also, if you decide to board in Toontown you don't have to navigate a ramp. Just show up and park your ECV. You will have to transfer to the train, and it is about two steps up, but you will have plenty of time. Then you can make the loop once and get off in Toontown again.

Good point.
Toontown is the only place you can enter the train on fairly level ground.

I remember the Toontown stop. Its just kind of a bummer that the ECV's can't go on the train, because we would love to take it at Main Street and get off at Toontown, but we will adapt. Small price to pay for DH being able to navigate the park with us in comfort. :thanks: :disrocks:
