ECVs and self closing hotel room doors

I have an issue at Disney hotels that I couldn't find posted. I use an ECV and had a lot of trouble with the self closing hotel room doors. I had to push the door open in front of me and scrape along it using the forward motion of the ECV because the closing hinge was too strong to hold open at arm's length as I drove in, which made me worry I'd scratch up the artwork on the door. Getting out was even harder since I had to open the door towards me. I have fibromyalgia and I'm not very strong but there are so many people even less so and people who can't get out of their chair to maneuver the door in the limited space and I don't know how they manage at all. It seems like if they're calling the room accessible there should be a better set up.
Have any of you come up with a solution for handling this?

Some people have reported having good results with going to the front desk directly (do NOT call from your room - those calls go to a call center, not the front desk) and requesting that Maintenance temporarily remove the self-closing mechanism for the length of your stay.

Others have reported good success using a door-stop that they bring from home to hold the door open while they drive the ECV out, and then getting off the ECV, picking up the door-stop and storing it on the ECV for the next use.

I will be honest - I always have a traveling companion with me to help hold the door going in and/or coming out of the room. But I know how strong those doors are.

There was a thread about this last year some time. I have the same concerns about trying to get in and out when I'm on my own, although apart from my arthritis I'm otherwise 'fit'. 95% of the time we're going in and out as a family so I have someone to get the door for me. But if I'm on my own I have to move the scooter as close to the door as I can while still being able to open it, open the door and with the scooter on the lowest possible speed and me standing, I carefully ease it through the opening and then I make sure all the lights are off and let the door go.

Coming back in, I really find it hard to open the door on my own, mostly because you're sitting so far back from the front wheel. So, if there's no-one already in the room I sort of half stand to get the door started and then I can carefully ease myself through while opening the door wider. Okay, The scooter often clonks the door, but I can't worry about that: if it's a case of getting in and out without hurting myself then the door is very secondary. The paint isn't that easy to chip, and who can say whether they knocked it with their housekeeping cart!
