Hello everyone,

We are looking to rent an ECV for my mother with mobility limitations for our trip in 2 months. We plan on renting one for the lenght of stay from an outside agency. However - upon calling for prices I was asked for the weight of my mother to see if she needed a standard or heavy duty ECV.
Problem? I would never ask my mother her weight b/c it's none of my business. So my main question is:

Do the WDW parks have standard or heavy duty ECVs? On last year's trip - she used a WDW ECV with no problems. I thought if I could determine what level disney rented, I could know what type to rent for her without having to ask.

HELP!!

I would guess you know your own weight.

Is your mother taller/shorter than you?

Broader/thinner than you?

Make an estimate.

I doubt the ECV will fall apart if your mother is just a little bit over the limit - I suspect it is more a case of who takes liability, you or the rental company.

The 'heavy' grade ECVs will have broader seats and might be more comfortable.

I don't remember Disney ever asking whether I wanted a heavy or light grade ECV, so I assume they are all heavy grade. I have certainly seen some very, very large people riding Disney's ECVs.

Andrew.

From what I remember seeing at the parks all the ECV's are the same, But the off site places have different types of ECV's. I think more than wanting her actual weight they just want to get her the best ECV for her size and comfort. Don't take it as them being noisy or rude. They are just doing their job. You can go to the www.scootarama.com site and they have pictures and info on the different ECV's available.

a standard ECV carries 225 to 250 lbs, some to 300. Heavy duty carry 300 to 450 and sometimes 500.
Now surely you can determine where your mother fits in that range?

Scooterama.com for the $25 fits to 250 or up and a big fella was no problem. Just charge at night.
This is not my experiance, but what was shared to me.

PS If you think she is over 300 you would want the heavier duty one.

We have rented from Walker during our past trips and have been extremely happy with them. Part of the reason for asking the persons weight (and height). Walker has ask me both in the past is they then choose a ECV that will fit the person the best. My DH is 6'4" , Walker sets the seat up higher so it is comforable for my DH and he doesn't have to make the adjustment for raising the seat and placing the pin in the stand.

I would estimate your mothers size and let the company you chose to rent from know. By having the correct size ECV they are assuring the comfort of their client as well as a battery size that will last the entire day.

The ECV's that you rent are much easier to navigate as they have three wheels which give you more mobility. They also are able to move quickly if necessary. The Disney ECV's are big and slow in IMHO. By renting off site you are also able to use the ECV to go to and from your hotel room, to DTD and any off site activity. You also keep the ECV with you so you don't have worry about the park having availability of a ECV when you arrive. There have been days where parks run out of rentals by 10:00 AM.

We love renting off site, it gives us so much flexability. What ever you do, have a wonderful trip.

Last month due to on and off health issues I rented a Revo from Scooterama.com. I tip the scales at the max for this unit, 300 LBS. $25.00 per day and I never had any problems. My DW feels that it is well worth the money. Without a ECV I would have been limited to shorter stays in the parks which would not be fair to my DW.

Hi! WDW's scooters have a sticker/sign on them that say maximum capacity of 450#. I rented several days and they worked perfectly, in fact a cast member told me they were all new this year. It was $40.00 to rent and then you were given $5.00 back when you turned the key in. They are very easy to use. The only downfall? During peak times you must be there early to get one! Hope this helps! Have fun!:goodvibes
