ECV Rental

My brother and sister in law will be staying at BLT on points from a mutual friend. I don't ever have extra points for them. Anyway, her mother just had double knee replacement surgery and is still recovering so she wanted to rent her a scooter. She doesn't really do rides, and is mostly there to watch her grandkids. Was wondering if anyone could recommend one of the Disney approved vendors for delivery to their resort.

I've seen countless ECV's in the hallways of resorts to charge (assuming those guests are in studios) but they have a 2br....plenty of room for it so it doesn't matter what kind they get.

We used Apple scooter many times with good luck. The scooters were great and their prices were too. They deliver right to the resort. https://applescooter.com We liked the rental scooter so much that we bought our own!

On the disabilities board someone showed the Better Business Bureau's present rating of F for Apple scooter. There are Los of good reports on Walker, but they're not featured. I'll find out in a couple weeks whether needing to meet at drop-off is an inconvenience.

I've only stayed in studios and regular rooms, never a one or two bedroom, and my scooter has always fit into the room. I've not had to leave it out in the hall.

In fact, I was under the impression that they weren't suppose to be left out.

Oh, and I use Walker. Yes, I have to be there for drop off and pick up. But it hasn't been a problem. They are very timely and their customer service is wonderful.

  They rent ECVs, manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs++, walkers, companion chairs, strollers, special needs strollers, bath equipment (including pediatric bath chairs), commodes, reclining chairs, hospital beds, oxygen & respiratory equipment, among other things.

  They rent ECVs, standing ECVs, manual wheelchairs, single and double strollers (weight limit to 60 pounds).
  From what I can tell, this company provides strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs for the WDW parks; and probably pool chairs. They also rent the large grey ECVs that can be rented in the parks, plus a form of Standing ECV that guests can drive from a standing position. Here is a link to a thread about them, with pictures.

The specific companies are listed because DIS posters have used and recommended them over the years. The companies with little feedback are listed along with that information.
We will NOT list a company on the FAQs thread without a significant number of recommendations from established posters. Also, some companies encourage/promote allowing children to ride as passengers on scooters. We will not knowingly post a link to any company that encourages behavior that is unsafe and companies that manufacture ECVs specifically warn against in their instruction manuals.

I used Scooterbug this summer when I broke my ankle (2 weeks before arriving at Jambo House!). Their price was the best of the various "Featured Vendors". The ECV was there when we arrived, fully charged and in good condition. I had no problems with low battery or the operation of the device. I would use them again, if needed. They had the option of a rear basket for $21 for the duration of the rental. It really came in handy this summer, particularly since the front basket was small. We were able to keep our 6-pack cooler with frozen water bottles in the basket when going to the parks. The rear basket did not cause any problems with loading on the bus.

I used Buena Vista Scooters last November and was very happy. Will be using them again later this year.

Regarding where to charge/leave it, I parked it in the hall just outside my door at AKV and never had any trouble (conveniently located outlet). People/carts/other ECV's could easily get by because the room entrances are set back a little. No one ever messed with the ECV in the hallway, but I still wouldn't leave anything in the basket or cart. Much easier than having to maneuver it around furniture and (sometimes) tight spaces in the room.

I just used Walker last week. I had to be there to accept it since it's not on the provider list. We moved to the Swan for our last night and I rode the bus over to DHS from OKW, then drove it along the canal to the Swan. The next morning I left it with Bell Services at the Swan where it was picked up. I called in the morning around 8AM and it was delivered before 9AM. We were in a studio at OKW (first floor, lucky, I didn't know I was going to need a scooter) and it fit nicely in the room. At the Swan it also fit nicely in the room.

I rented from Walker Mobility last year mostly because their deluxe scooter is water resistant. Other companies that I contacted said their scooters were not water resistant. Yes, I had to be at the resort to pick up the scooter and return it, but you give them a drop off & pick up time and they go by that so just plan to be at the resort during those times.

I charged the scooter in my room, between the sofa & dining table.

We rented a scooter for the first time last November for my husband. With all the scheduled trip times we had for ADRs, Fastpass, etc., I didn't want one more thing timed so we chose a featured vendor. Went with Buena Vista. Scooter was there when we went to pick it up and all went well. Although I don't have anything to compare it to. We were also at BLT in a 2 bedroom with plenty of room for it.

Just a bit of advice. No matter who they rent from have them bring the charging plug with them to the park until they get a feel for the battery's strength and length of charge. There are plugs around the parks to charge in case it runs low. Nothing like running out of charge at the far end of the park and MK said they didn't have any charging plugs around. My Mom uses one for a bad hip and a kamikaze trip planner (me) and one of the scooters we rented would go from full to empty charge in 20 minutes...

If you haven't used a scooter before, get familiar with the rabbit/turtle dial (that's what mine had). If it was wide open spaces, I'd be rabbiting along. But in close areas with lots of people, it was turtle all the way.

That rabbit/turtle dial makes so much difference! Use it often. I'm here now as a first-time scooter renter and that's probably the first big thing I learned.
