Okay, so I was going to rent an ECV from Walker Mobility. However, the price for renting from them vs renting from Disney is almost the same for the amount of days that we are going to be there. Plus, I'm not going to need one when we go to Downtown Disney.

So, we are considering renting them when we get to the parks. I can walk to an from the bus stops. I just have a hard time sometimes with walking long distances.

I think the time of year that we are going is considered a slower time of the year. Has anyone ever seen/heard of them renting all of the ECV's?

Also, can you use Disney Gift Cards to pay for renting them?

If we decide to call Walker or another company then can they deliver the same or next day? I'm sorry for all the questions I'm just not sure of other's experiences.

If anyone has rented from another, cheaper company can you tell me who you rented from? I'm just trying to get an idea of where to look for a rental. Whether it's from Disney or from an offsite company.....

TIA.....

Check post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. It is located near the top of this board, or you can follow the link in my signature.
Post 2 has information and links to a number of rental companies recommended by DIS posters. Check them out to see how they compare in prices and how quickly they deliver.

If you get to the parks within one hour of opening and don't park hop, you have a good chance of getting an ECV at the park.
But, many people with disabilities choose to go during less busy times, so there may still be high demand for ECVs, even if crowds in general are low.

My personal deciding factor would be - what would I do if there were no ECVs left at the park when I got there?

If my answer was that I would be able to rent and use a wheelchair, or I would be able to walk, but take it slow and still have a great day, I would rent in the parks.

If the answer was something else, I would strongly consider renting from off site anyway.

I believe that Apple rents one for 7 days for around $150. I have used them and been very happy. We called them at noon one day on our last trip and they had a scooter to our resort by 3pm that day.

Walker has three models in the $20-30 range, which is considerably less than the $50 per day for the ones at WDW, and their heaviest duty one is still cheaper at $46. I personally think renting from Walker would be the way to go, if I had to decide between those options.

Walker is a great company, we have rented from them since 2004. They do have discounts available as well as the price is dependent on how long you are renting. They give a military discount as well as a DIS member discount, I would imagine they have other discounts too. Give them a call and find out the cost. The rental ECV's are much easier to use, drive and maneuver than the park ECV's. With an outside rental it is available for you to use around your resort and go resort to park, dinner and all. When you are spending a day at WDW in the heat and humidy having the ability to take your ECV with you is big relief.

There are other companies listed with the links on the Disability sticky as Sue said above. I would IMHO rent from an outside company rather then renting at the parks.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation!

We've always used Walkers when I take my mom down there and have always been very pleased with them. However, Apple scooters gets very good reviews here on the DIS, so I checked with them for our upcoming Sept trip. They have the newer Go Go Elite ECV and for Sept 1st-8th, he's only charging us $135.00 ($143.78 with tax). Their prices are quite a bit cheaper than Walkers. Walkers wants you to buy the extra insurance (which we always do), but Apple includes the insurance free. Because the first day is just a half day, he gave us a day free, so it comes out to less than $20.00/day.

Another thing to consider is that the offsite rental ECV's are smaller and easier to drive than the big bulky ones at the parks.

Hello Aubriee:

Couldn't sleep and decided to surf the DIS this morning. Please give us a phone call when you have a chance. WE offer the Pride GOGO Elite scooter for $125.00 dollars for that same time frame and that includes insurance. Also, we outfit all of our GOGO fleet with a larger battery (20amp) and that comes standard no extra charge. The increased battery size allows for longer drive time for a full day of fun.

Please ask for me when you call.

Thank you,

John R. Walker

They give a military discount as well as a DIS member discount, I would imagine they have other discounts too.

I requested a quote today and was told by Crystal that there is no DIS member discount, only the military one.

First off, I want to thank everyone for the answers. It was a big help.

I've decided that I'm going to rent from Apple. The prices are right and I don't want to have to worry about there being an extra ECV.

Plus, I sprained my ankle yesterday and walking normally and without pain isn't going to be possible for over 8 weeks. Past our vacation.

Thanks again for all the help!!

I am sorry MCoryB, I have tried to find where I saw a DIS discount for Walker Mobility and I can't find it. :confused3 I was on several links at that time, I am sorry I must be mistaken.

However, I do know they give discounts based on how long your are renting the ECV for. We have been very happy with their service and attention to detail and interaction. My DH had a flat tire one day while we were touring the GF. He called them and they met us in the lobby within 20 minutes with a new scooter.

I don't know about a Dis discount at Walker's, but Apple does give a Dis discount.

I am not sure so you may want to read up more on it, but thought I saw where the scooters are $50 a day. Also, they are first come, first serve so even if you get there really early, pay for the day, want to go back and rest up like I have to, then go back, even if you have the reciept where you paid already for the entire day, if there are none there, then you will not have a scooter. I am renting from walker motility. They quoted me a price of 204.50 for 7 days. That is alot cheaper than in the parks. Just check it out.

We've ended up booking Mom's scooter with Apple instead of Walker, and I asked Alex at Apple if there is a DISboards discount, and he ignored my question, so now that I've seen this post I'm emailing him again to ask. :) I'll update with what I'm told. They're already running cheaper Summer rates, so I'm not sure if they'll take off any more or not.

Don't think you will be disappointed with Apple. We have used them several times and have been pleased. Anxious to hear what you find out about a Dis discount.

I emailed Alex and he said that the summer rate is 15% and that he normally there is a discount for Disboard members, but since the 15% discount is better that's the one they go with. So, basically they don't do double discounts.

I love hearing a positive review about Apple. Using them for the first time and was unsure about it. Thank you so much!!

Thanks! I will be emailing Alex soon to make a reservation for my DH at the beginning of Oct. so I guess the summer discount will be off by that time but nice to know there is a Dis discount. Have a great trip!

I reserved mine for the beginning of October through their website. It looks like we are going to be there at the same time. He gave me the discount even though we are going in the fall. I'm paying $181 for 8 days.

We will be there for 10 days but will only need the scooter for 8 days since we don't get one for arrival/departure days. We are at the BWVs. Where are you staying? Perhaps we will meet each other. We are vacationing with my daughter (from Seattle) and son-in-law, 3 grandchildren (3, 6 & 9) and my twin sister, her daughter, sil & grandaugther (9). Are you going to MNSSHP, if so what night? We are going the 8th. It is a wonderful time of the year to go!:goodvibes

We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. And we are going to MNSSHP on the 11th of October. I agree that it's a wonderful time to visit!! My favorite time of year in fact!
