I have posted this on the Disneyland board, but have had no answers.... I know someone will know over here.......
I may need to rent a ECV for my DMIL for our 1 day trip to DL. I say may because she will fight us tooth and nail to walk. A little background on her condition. She is a diabetic who is slowly losing her foot. She hobbles around and loves to walk, it is just that she has to stop and take lots of breaks. This is normal and we had every intention of having her walk in DL, we would just take it slow. Less than a week ago, she hurt her foot so bad that she can barely walk and can't fit a shoe on that foot. At 70 years old we are not sure how many more Disney trips we can take with her, so we are looking at any way to make her trip easier. We are by no means trying to cheat the system, as many people tend to jump to that conclusion at DL and on the DIS (of course, not here on the disAbilities board). I know how many people sneer and accuse people on ECV's who look "normal". I also know that driving an ECV at DL or WDW is hard to do because of the crowds.... we are just looking at possibilities for our 1 day drip to DL next week.

What is the cost for the day if rented at DL?

Thanks.

Duds

I spend most of my time on the transportation board...

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I'm not sure of the DL price, but at WDW it is $45 per day plus a $20 refundable key deposit.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #15 deals with Disneyland.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

Please ask her the following questions. Here are the suggested answers to go with them.

1. Are you disabled (even temporarily)? Yes.

2. Do the people you are traveling with, such as your family, know you are disabled? Yes.

3. Do you expect to meet anyone you know during this trip who may not know you are disabled. Probably No!

4. Do you expect to meet a bunch of people who you will probably never meet again in your life? Probably yes!

5. Is there any reason at all that you should care what these people think about you? Absolutely No!!

6. Will using a wheelchair or ECV make for a better vacation for you and your family? Absolutely YES!

Although I don't know anything about renting an offsite ECV at Disneyland, I will tell you that having the ECV at Disneyland was WONDERFUL. We own our own personal ECV that we use mainly for my DHs bad knees at Disneyworld. I was recovering from surgery and was on week 6 of my recovery, had serious cabin fever and HAD to do something, so decided to try Disneyland for the first time. I took the ECV with me just in case I found myself getting tired. I am SOOO glad I did. Because of the ECV, I was able to get a hotel a bit further from the entrance (a lot cheaper too!!). I didn't rent a car and I didn't have to use the ART transit either. It was sooooo nice to be able to leave Main Street after the fireworks and be back in my hotel room within fifteen minutes!! (Try that at Disneyworld staying at the value resorts, not gonna happen!!)

I was a little hesitant about using it, because I am a really healthy person and had even started walking after my surgery, but I did use it and was glad. On my first day, I decided to walk Tarzan's Treehouse because it was different from WDW and I really wanted to see it. By the time I got off of the treehouse, my legs were really wobbly. I was so shocked at how weak I was. I was thankful for that ECV.

oh boy a one day trip just before my birthday YIPPEEEEEEE YAHOO AND WAHOO.

My mother just had a birthday and mine is next month. Why am I so happy? This is the time of peace and emptyness and lonelyness. This is the slowest time at the parks especially a Mon-Thursday, Fridays until around 4 pm or so, and weekend mornings. The rest of the times are not too busy but are the busiest. Not many crowds that time.

Get the GAC from City Hall. Rent on site a wheelchair and it will be faster and easier to push her around the park than her trying to learn to navigate one. If she wants to walk then let her and dump your stuff in the chair. Trust me she will eventually get tired and surrender. Check the Disneyland site for closures for that day and times for events. You can have Walker and other companies drop one off at your house or hotel. Also put things in perspective like that she is tired after doing dishes so how does she expect to walk the 5 to 10 miles at the parks. (I lie it is less lol but dont tell her that).

Check the FAQs for info on DL rentals, not sure on prices. slow times will mean plenty of rentals in park. Bad news is that it is a long hike from the parking garage to the tram.

Where are you staying? If it is within walking distance of the park I would recommend using an off-site service to rent an ECV--the ones I have used are Deckert's and OC Medical--happy with both--Deckert's is a little less expensive but their equipment is on average older and bigger. I use OC Medical on a regular basis and have found them to be wonderful.
