So I read the overall facts which was very helpful but wanted to hear if anyone had a similar experience/if I should be looking into ECV rentals.

I'm recovering still from a broken ankle - I can walk and can really do about 2 miles without significant pain over the course of a day. After that, it can get dicey. I'm debating if it makes sense to do a ECV rental for longer distances - like covering the distance between various lands at the MK. I'm happy to stand in lines as stamina allows and also walk around but I'm concerned about my ability to sustain several miles a day for 5 days (PS - never break your ankle, definitely the worst injury I've ever had).

Has anyone else done this? Say used the ECV - parked it somewhere for a few hours and picked it up for longer distances? Or should I just tough it out?

I'm going in July so I know there's going to be rain quite often - are there parking areas that are covered? Since, again, I may park for an hour or two until we're done with the land?

Folks do this all the time. I would get the ECV for longer distances at the parks and at the resort. Your ankle may swell later in the day after all that walking and heat.

DO NOT try to tough it out. Not only will you be in pain, and have swelling, but you could set back the healing process. Rent the ecv. Use it as little or as much as you need to. You will likely find as each day gets later, that you need it more than you think you will.

There aren't a lot of covered areas to park the ecv. Get a large poncho and some alligator clips to cover it if necessary.

I had a similar experience for my trip this past May. Except at that point, I was only able to walk in the orthopedic boot for very short distances so I decided to rent a scooter. It was So worth it, words cannot describe!

I only had rain for one day (a FULL day pretty much, from 12:30pm-8:30pm in the parks). I brought an extra poncho in case things didn't work out but ended up making due with a kitchen trash bag from home over the tiller & steering column which covered all the electronics completely & kept it going all day & night. I stuck the key on top of the bag so that I could still take it out when I left the ECV & keep it with me at all times & that worked out as well.

I was also thinking the same you are, that I'd park it & try to walk with the boot around then go back to it & I was able to wait in the queues with no issues. But I found that CM's at the attractions were really welcoming & friendly. I ended up just following their instructions to park it usually inside the ride somewhere & it was there when I got off ready to go. That way I wasn't worried about it sitting outside in the rain at all without me. You could park it in the Land somewhere out of the way if you wanted & come back to it. FYI - the elevator takes you right down to the exit area of The Land ride.

One thing I was wondering about was the company I was going to rent from since every company I found reviews on was about 50/50. I ended up going with Best Price Mobility & had no issues whatsoever with the ECV. It was waiting for me at bell services at the time I specified & was super easy to return when I was done. It wasn't brand new looking but it wasn't beat up looking either, just some scratches on the front so you could tell it was used but nothing major & everything was in working order & it was fully charged. And I really liked that they answered all of my questions via email before my rental, unlike other companies I contacted. I had to call them once with a question while I was at my resort & they were very friendly & prompt with answering.

I was there solo & also made the decision to book a room with a roll in shower which I don't know what I would've done without that (not showered perhaps..).

So, YES, Definitely rent an ECV. IMO, it was well worth it! And have a Great trip!!

use a scooter and keep hydrated. the heat and humidity in Florida can be brutal, especially if you're not from such a tropical climate. We rent from Walker because they have canopy type scooters available, helps a lot.

Lots of folks use an ECV as you are intending - park it, and walk around an area, then move on to another area/Park/Resort. It's a great plan.

Most of the rental companies will advise you ahead of time about their equipment and rain. Some of them will give you what looks like a clear shower cap to put over the tiller controls (where the most sensitive electronics are).

I bring my own personal ECV to WDW, so I have a shower-cap style cover for the hand controls, and because of the design on my scooter, I also cover the battery + battery connection. I additionally carry a poncho just for the scooter, and I have a few binder clips clipped onto the folded poncho - it lets me cover the ECV effectively and quickly.

There isn't really any covered parking for ECVs/wheelchairs/strollers other than the shows and attractions that have interior parking space while you are watching/riding. I would reach out to your rental vendor and ask them what their policy is - and what their recommendations are for rain.

parking areas are not covered as you would be using stroller parking. also when riding in rain make sure the poncho or what ever you are using covers you and also the seat back so rain does not come down behind you to where your behind gets wet. I learned the hard way

My husband is unable to walk the 8 or more miles that we cover in a typical disney day, so he rents a scooter and parks it near the rides or restaurants and walks the rest. We bring 2 ponchos for the scooter, one for the motor and another for the seat. We have never had a problem, but I suggest you check with whomever you rent the scooter from and see how they handle possible rain related issues.
