Has anyone recently had their scooter rental breakdown within a Park?

I rented from Scooterbug in December and my fully charged rental refused to power on in the morning and began beeping steadily at my resort. After speaking with the company, they said they would need to send a replacement, BUT, it was my responsibility to push the non-operating scooter to Bell Services. Most people who require an ECV cannot walk let alone push it! I was at Saratoga Springs out in the Congress Park section which takes a mobile person about 15-20 minutes to walk to Bell Services. I told them that was not physically possible and had no one to help me. It became a huge issue where they weren’t going to deliver another scooter unless I got it to them :headache:

I’m looking for a different company, but I want to make sure that they would come to me wether I am at a resort, or in the Parks if there was an issue.

Sorry but not a problem I’ve had to date 😞
Last December, my scooter suddenly stopped working at AK and I was alone. Family was in the park but I was in Dinoland, they in Asia. I called my rental company and they talked me thru the repair which involved pressing a button on the Delta tiller. Unit started working immediately and by the time my family reached me I didn’t even bother telling them about the breakdown.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix!
For my scooter, the number of beeps it was giving referred to the issue and when he looked up the code it was a major issue requiring them to swap it out.

Interesting, this used to be one point where Scooterbug had an advantage being the preferred vendor, it used to be any CM would be able to assist in this situation. If that is taken away, then it leaves only Gold Mobility to my knowledge that will come into the park to assist. It is of course better if you can get it to a common area outside the gates, but they can and will come directly to you. but I would call them to confirm that they still can do so, just in case Disney has decided to crack down on them doing it.

You were at your resort? Not in a park, right? Did you try contacting Bell Services to see if they could assist getting the ECV back to their location for a swap?

ScooterBug runs the in-park ECV rentals and I have definitely read reports of folks who were helped by CMs within the park.

I don't know if that's still true about Gold Mobility being able to come into the park. I had an issue with my scooter from Gold Mobility about 1 1/2 years ago, and they met me outside the park to exchange scooters. Fortunately my scooter was still operating, which they knew-if it hadn't been, I wondered if they'd met me inside the park. But they were there within an hour, quick switch, and I was happy.

Yeah, I missed it was at the resort, but still seems odd they wouldn't come to the room to assist.

I did contact bell services but they told me they have no way to transport a non operational scooter (and they weren’t about to send someone to push it for a 20 minute walk and I don’t blame them). They said it was the responsibility of the rental company. The rental company said Disney does not allow them to come on property past bell services so it was a bit of a he said, she said. So basically the two companies put me in the middle of their issues. The manager at Bell services eventually told me to just leave it in the hall and if scooterbug wanted it back they could come and get it, but it took me over an hour on the phone to get scooterbug to deliver a new scooter without bringing the old one to bell services. Bell Services said they would call scooterbug and arrange for them to pick it up from the hallway.

I don’t think any companies can enter the park now. Many years ago Buena Vista scooters swapped out a scooter for my mother in the park while we were eating lunch at Be Our Guest. They even had a restaurant CM bring the new ignition key to our table!

Gold Mobility has been able to do so in the recent past on a limited basis, i.e. the scooter broke down in the middle of the park. I don't know the details, but basically they only have done it when there are no other options available, so that may be the key difference why they have been allowed when others weren't and yes, I know they have done it at times when other companies couldn't because they did it. The last DH spoke with them (several few months ago), they said in such an instance they can come into the parks, but in some cases it may take extra time now because they have to have security escort them if they don't have a park reservation for the day. Not sure how that would work on the good to go days for passholders now. They cannot accept anything that looks like payment while in the parks though, not even a tip. And again, I am not sure if this is still the case or not, best to ask them directly as policies are constantly changing.

Two years ago my mom had a scooter from Walker. It was our first day there and her scooter would periodically die. So of course, when we entered HS, it completely died over by the camera shop(thankfully we weren’t further in the park). We were instructed to push it out of the park and wait over by the ticket booth. Took them about 45 min to get her a replacement. So from our experience, Walker does not enter
The parks either.

OP, so sorry this happened. It’s stories like this that have convinced us only to go with Gold. What a mess for you!
