I will be using an ECV for the first time this October WDW trip. :woohoo: But, how "rain-proof" are they? Do I need to bring something to cover it up with?:scratchin Can you "drive" around in the rain? Thanks in advance.:disrocks:

I was worried about the same thing.... when we went it poured 2 out of the 3 days we were in the parks... I know if you see deep puddles you should avoid riding through them. The first day we had rain I ended up putting my poncho on the scooter instead of myself, my mom just put her poncho on and never had any trouble... but then again we weren't out in the rain long before it quit. The other day it rained, we both put our ponchos on and covered up the controls with the front by leaning over, but that was a pain.... I think the best way is to have an extra poncho and just cover up the electrical controls, but then again they may be fine without doing that!
I hope this helps!

I use a rain bonnet over the controls....covers them and I can still get to them easily. I just wear an extra large poncho to cover me and the ecv. Some people use a shower cap on the controls.

Let me put it this way; overhere it rains and rains and rains. A lot and with fury, for hours. I've used an ecv for a couple of years (too difficult for me know). While they advice you to not go through deep puddles (possibility of water splashing up from beneath where there is limited protection and the electrics are located), otherwise rain aint a problem. I've been driving in rain a lot more than anyone would want to. The thing got soaked so many times, in fall through spring getting it soaked for 3 times a week wasn't an exception. We all use the ecv like that overhere (otherwise you never get out, it allways rains as soon as you're out ;) ) and I've never heared about any incidents caused by rain. Nobody covers up the controls either -funny because with my powerchair it's the first thing I did and it has exactly the same way of building the controls-.

Now on the comfort part; it is a lot nicer to have something dry to sit on. As long as the ecv is covered in fabric like skai (spelling??) it isn't too big of a problem. Simply dry the ecv off like you dry yourself off. However if it isn't any fabric that absorbs fluids, boy! I don't know about you but I hate sitting in something wet or damp after I got inside and dried myself off.

Hi! I rented WDW scooters while at the park and our last day at MK it poured and our last day at AK it did as well. Their scooters have plastic over the switches and are "rain proofed". Mine did just fine. I never went through water but believe me, I was soaked so plenty of water hit me. The biggest problem I found it MK was that the ambulatory people ran for cover and blocked the ramps and areas to go up/park under cover so believe me I was forsed to kind of stay in the rain there and it did OK.

A clear shower Cap is all that is needed to protect the controls other than that rain will not hurt it, think about it, it is the mode of transport for may people. now you will want a poncho [a good one not the Disney variety to cover yourself and you can drape this over the handle bars as well as you drive but you don't have too, you may also want one to put over the ECV if it is raining while you are in a ride.

When you rent from Walker Mobility in Orlando, they provide a plastic "shower cap" type thingy to put over the controls in case of rain. I guess that's all that really needs covering.

We bring a shower cap for the controls, and we also have a gas grill cover to put over it for outside storage if heavy rain is pending (such as when we go into a restaurant for dinner, or if we stay at Ft. Wilderness). We also don't bother taking it into "The Land" or a couple of other places.

Thanks everyone! We are renting from Walker Mobility in Orlando. I guess my DH is right...I worry too much!

And...this is my 100th post! Finally!:thanks: :disrocks:

when i rented from randy's in jan 05, they required me to sign that i would not use the scooter in the rain. i don't know if it's still their policy. the year prior, walker mobility gave me a shower cap type thing for the control area.

now that own my own, i put one disposable poncho over the entire "stick" part-espceially because there's always stuff in the basket--and a second poncho over the seat part (two for a dollar at the dollar store)--especially important as there are a few minor rips in the vinyl and i wouldn't want the inner material to get soaked. we survived a total deluge like that, not that i'd recommend it if it could be avoided.
