ECV costs

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knows what Disney currently charges for an ECV per day? Does anybody know what the rental rate from an outside company is these days? We rented one for my dad during our last visit with him, and it was really nice, but we had a rental car and it was difficult on my husband getting it put together and disassembled everytime we used the car. I am just wondering if it isn't better to rent from Disney everyday. I think we checked what the rates were, but they were higher than we expected. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

$35 per day, plus a $5 or $10 refundable deposit.

Offsite rental prices vary, but figure between $175 and $200 per week for a standard size ECV.

The previous poster was right on with the info, but deposit at WDW is now $10.00 refundable deposit. The only problem with that is one might not be available when you get to the park for the day. I would recommend renting off site again. My Dh and I wouldn't dissassemble the ones my mom used, but we rented a minivan for our trip. He can take it on the buses and on the monorail without difficulty, unless you are staying off property. We even took ours on the boat from MK to Ft Wilderness.

I am going for 2 days at the end of August, but I am still going to rent from off property so that it is guaranteed. I have problems with plantar fasciaitis (?sp) and I have numbness (nerve damage) in my rt knee from an injury and canot walk all day comfortably, so I want to guarantee myself a ride.

PrincessSuzanne, that is interesting that you were able to just put your ECV in the back of your minivan. We also had a minivan on that trip but we still dis-assembled everytime. Was it too heavy to lift in and out all in one piece? Very interesting. We also have a stroller for my young DS so not sure that will work, but ultimately that would be best. Just curious to hear more about storing it in the back of your minivan. Sorry to hear of your health issues, I certainly don't blame you for wanting to get around easily in the ECV. They really were a wonderful solution for my dad. The freedom of mobility was great!

If the deposit on park ECVs is now $10, they have not updated the information on their website to reflect that.

For questions about taking apart an ECV, the disABILITIES FAQs thread has some information about taking apart an ECV that Cheshire Figment wrote.
Also, there are links in that thread to the off-site rental companies that DIS posters have used most. Some of them have information on their websites, including pictures/instructions and information about the size and weight of pieces of the ECV.

We could and should have taken them apart, but my DH didn't want to do that, so it was easier not to argue with him. The more we did this, the easier it got to be.

We laid down all of the seats except the one that my mom was sitting in, covered the floor with an old sheet(since it was a rental van we didn't want to scratch anything) and then I lifted the front and my DH lifted the back and rolled them in (we had 2) We put the one mom was using in first because it was a 3 wheeled model and would fit up closer to the back of the front passenger seat (mom sat in the rear driver side seat) and we would put the other one next to it behind my mom. They were heavy, but it enede being worth it since there were times that we had to wait for the third bus to come to the Fort before we could get on, because they picked up people at Wilderness Lodge first and sometimes were almost at capacity before getting to Ft Wilderness. This time we won't have a mini van, so I will have to use Disney transportation.

Please forgive, It was $10.00 when we were there in 2005 and is $5.00 now.

Now for the offsite rentals, I thought there were companies that would deliver to and pick up from your onsite hotel room, am I wrong about this?

You are correct, except they will deliver to the hotel check in and pick it up from there. Some charge a $10 to $15 delivery fee, but that quote was from December 2006.

most deliver for free.
If you go to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you will find links and phone numbers for the off-site companies that DIS posters most often have posted good experiences with.

I can actually answer about the delivery - my dad used Walker (I think that's the name) last time. There was no delivery charge. They delivered it right to the resort (we were at BWV) then the bell services called to let us know it was there. We also were able to just leave it the AM we checked out. The people behind the front desk are so used to doing this, they all know how to drive them around etc. I believe Walker (?) is pretty common. We noticed a TON of them around. You tend to notice them more once you have one for your own family members.

Walker is pretty common.
Care is also one of the common companies and delivers the same way.
We used Randy's (another common place used by DIS posters). Randy's delived the ECV directly to our room, rather than to the hotel front desk.
