I read somewhere or other ;) that a rental scooter with cane holder on back
is a problem for bus loading. Is this the case? I will need a cane along and worry
it will be an issue. It seems awkward to hold one and drive. (First time user)

I have not personally used an ECV, but I have seen some loaded on the bus with cane holders without issue. The issues I have seen and read about were ECVs with back baskets.

If you don’t get an answer from actual users here, I’d suggest contacting the company you are renting from to ask.

Something you might consider getting eventually is the cane DH got for use when out of his powerchair.

It's in 3 segments and screws together like a portable pool cue. He doesn't like foldable canes and loves this one. Takes less than a minute to assemble it.

It came with a pouch that easily stashes in the pouch on the back of his chair or for me to put into my park-going tote.

He ordered it from an online seller that he typically buys made-to-measure canes from. PM me if interested, and I'll gladly link the site for you.

A cane holder shouldn’t be an issue on the bus as it’s often a set of 2 tubes (some people would put crutches in there too), or a clip.

What I’ve seen a lot of are the folding canes (either single tip, or a tripod-style like the Hurrycane) and they’re often folded in half and put in the front basket of the scooter.

My husband and I both used ECVs and also use canes. We did NOT have cane holders. We rested the cane tip on the "floor" towards the front of the ECV near our feet, and the upper part of the cane between our legs. It wasn't a problem. I tend to drive one-handed, and rested the cane towards my left leg. My cane is a foldable one, and I honestly didn't even think about folding it.

I use an ECV with a cane holder and it doesn't interfere at all. I used to have a Go-Go Sport with a rear basket, and since the GoGo is smaller, I could get by without to the basket interfering. But then I switched the Pride Victory, and couldn't use the basket anymore. So I certainly know first hand about things on the rear interfering. When I first tried the cane holder on the Pride Victory, I was rather nervous. However, no problem at all! You'll be fine. Just be aware that the cane holder does not have a wide enough diameter to put a base that has "feet" into. However, if you have a folding cane, you can fold your cane and put it in, as long as the "feet" are outside.

I have a folding cane and a pouch that holds it. I pull the string on the pouch and hang it on the arm rest of my electric wheelchair (my Hot Wheels) because the the was always getting knocked off the cane holder clip that came with my HW. It’s great when traveling on a plane. They are available on Amazon.

We have had the cane holder accessory on the scooter we rent for Mom. Works well and zero issues with it on the buses. We had had it on both the GoGo Sport and the Pride Victory scooters. We just had the Victory + cane holder combo in September.

Thank you all! I wont worry about this now. I knew baskets cause trouble but was surprise about the cane holder! Glad its a non issue

I stick my cane on the back of my scooter. I don't have a cane holder; I hang my backpack behind the seat and then slip the cane between the backpack and the back of the seat. It's secure enough that it won't come off without removing the backpack, and it sticks out upwards not outwards.

Something as small as a cane holder shouldn't prove to be an issue. As long as it isn't sticking out past the end of the scooter itself.

If someone did have issues it may just have been a cranky driver. I've had one or two drivers over my decade+ using the busses who were just unhappy no matter what I did. I can't bend my knees far enough to clear the steering column on the inside, which means when I sit on my scooter, both my feet are hanging out on one side, as opposed to one foot on each side. The only way to do one foot on each side is to sit down and then lift my leg all the way up and bring it over the basket and the steering column. I can manage it when I need to because I have decent mobility in my hips, but it's super awkward, painful, and definitely cannot be done while on a bus. Also, it flashes my panties to all and sundry. This hasn't prevented a couple of drivers from DEMANDING that I don't have my feet on the same side. What exactly would you like me to do, chop them off?

I've also had drivers insist that I take my messenger bag out from under the seat and keep it in my lap -- even though it was designed to fit under the seat, even though I cannot safely drive the scooter with a bag in my lap, even though other drivers have specifically told me I can't have a bag in my lap because it's not safe (they're right) and to put it under the seat.

99% of Disney bus drivers are wonderful people. They have regulations to follow, understandably. The scooter needs to fit within a certain space and you can't have a rear basket sticking out too far or a cane held horizontally. Most of the time if they ask you do to something it's for your safety and the safety of the other passengers.

But every now and then you meet one who will insist you do it their way even when you're not physically capable of doing whatever non-regulation unnecessary thing they want you to do.

The OP might have already taken their trip, but we had a cane holder and it did cause issues on some buses. I think what it is,is DH has the seat back further which makes the cane holder stick out just a tad too much. We had gone on jungle cruise twice, once they ask me to remove it so the scooter lift would close.

###Update review! I had no trouble with busses and cane holder. In a busy park I found it awkward ..the cane poking out away from back of chair was sometimes in peoples faces. When I needed a scooter replacement it came with no holder. I had no trouble laying it on knee, and in fact liked that better!
