Going to WDW the week of Labor Day 5th thru the 10th

With my health issues, getting to the park early each day isn't possible.

If I get there late morning, will I have trouble renting a ECV?

It’s very hard to say.
Even if the park is not that busy, many guests with special needs take advantage of the lower crowds and go to WDW when it’s less crowded.
As a general rule, if you get to a park before 10, you probably will get an ECV and you for sure will be able to get a wheelchair (except very busy times). If you are at the park after 10, all the ECVs may be gone and you may have to go on a waiting list.
One day at MK in early May 2010, my DH saw someone arguing with the CM at the rental place because all the ECVs were gone and she said she could not do the park without one. That was about 10:30 am and she left in a huff.

I know what you mean. I usually start the day somewhere between 11:00 and 1:00 (depending on the park closing). There's no way I could make it from opening to closing. I plan on visiting again during one of the slow weeks in December (can't wait). Anyway, It will probably be hard to get one that late. I have my own personal ECV, so this is not an issue for me. But I spoke to someone I met at Epcot one day back in July and they said that if you rent a scooter from one of the local scooter places in Orlando, it's cheaper and much more convenient that renting one at the parks. They'll even deliver it to your hotel and you keep it the duration for your trip. Google it and see what you come up with. Good luck and hope you have a wonderful visit!

No need to google -
Look near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Post #2 of that thread has a list of off site rental places that DIS posters have recommended over the years. The ones listed there continue to have good feedback from DIS posters. All of the companies will pick up and deliver to your resort. There is information in another post on that thread about WDW transportation and post 2 also has info about renting from the parks.
