We are new to ECV. We always used a wheelchair in Disney . My 12 year old just got a ECV to replace his wheelchair and am wondering about space mountain.

Can you get a ECV up and down space mountain ok? Coming down, I am most worried about?

Many Thanks

Charleyann

I have been able, in the past, to drive my power w/c down the ramp to the attraction entrance and back up, however you will likely be told that he'll have to transfer to a manual w/c for this attraction. ECV's are a larger footprint than a w/c and some of the turns are tight. They should have manual w/c's at the entrance for him to use.---Kathy

I remember the motorized ramp coming out being very narrow - that certainly needs to be replaced during the next renovation.

Do you exit down the ramp in a wheelchair, or do they have you go out the entrance? How do you get back to the ECV? (We may have an ECV user on our next trip, maybe even two if I need one!)

They will move the wheelchair to Unload and you will pick it up there. I think they don't want ECVs on the moving ramp. When you get out you will turn left, go past the entrance, and "redeem" the ECV.

I was afraid you were going to tell me that!:rotfl: I hoped for once, I wouldn't have to push a wheelchair up that steep hill. It's a killer. It's Alright if you don't have no one in front of you and you can make a run for it!!!!!!

Thanks for your quick replies!!!!

Yes.
But keep in mind that this trip this will be one of the few times you will need to push the wheelchair. For most attractions, he will be able to bring the ECV in all the way. Keeping that in mind might help deal with the 'killer ones'.
There are some attractions that he will be able to continue using his ECV since it is small even though the boarding instructions say that ECV users must transfer. The 'rules' are made for the bigger ECVs, which truly won't fit. There are some attractions (like this) where other conditions prevent ECVs from going, no ECVs are allowed at all.
