We are planning our first trip with my MIL for this coming May. She can only walk very short distances with a walker. She would like to have an ECV for getting around the park so she can explore a bit when we take the kids on rides. Without the walker or a wheelchair though I'm not sure how we would get her into the dining locations. Any advice would be great.

I travel with someone who uses a ECV. If she was having a really bad day she drove her ECV to the table and I drove it out and parked it where I was told. Just tell the host when you check in that someone in your party has an ecv and let them know if you'll transfer at the table or before hand.

I use an ecv full-time, and at many restaurants at WDW I've been seated on my ecv at the table. The seat can rotate 90 degrees, if needed. I do have the choice to transfer to a seat, and sometimes I'll do that. My DD will then take the ecv away. Only one place I remember having to transfer from my ecv to a wheelchair in order to enter a restaurant was Chefs de France at Epcot. At Kona Cafe (Poly) and Sci-Fi Dine-In (DHS), after I was seated in a chair, they (or my DD) moved my ecv b/c there wasn't enough room to keep it parked in the aisle. I know there are scooters you can rent with a walker holder, would that help? Otherwise one of your group would have to carry the walker around during your visit. (It's very light.)

Having an ecv with a holder for the walker would be great. I will have to look for that. Our concern with carrying it was where did we leave it if we went on a ride while she went exploring elsewhere. At Chefs de France did they have the wheelchair for you at the restaurant?

You could carry the walker thru the line and give it to the CM when you are boarding the ride. After the ride, a CM will either give you back the walker, or it will be in "parked" the boarding area. Tie a scarf or ribbons or something else to it, to distinguish your walker from other people's walkers. (And don't forget it when exiting the ride. :))

At Chefs de France, yes, they did furnish a wheelchair. They told us where to park the ecv and brought a wheelchair to us.

Once when I was riding Space Mountain while using crutches, I asked the CM at boarding, "Is there a place where I can leave my crutches?" instead of "Where do I leave my crutches?"

He said, with a perfect poker face, "No, there isn't. You take them with you in the sled, they fly out and land at the bottom, and you can pick them up when you get down there." Then he laughed and said, "I'm just kidding! Here, let me take them for you."
