We booked an economy in order to stay within our budget (there are only 3 of us) but we are hoping they don't have any and we get upgraded. We are an SUV family so an economy is going to feel like a go-cart LOL.

Anyone been recently and get a peek at what is being offered in the economy section?

They rarely have many econ. cars and most people are told to go to the compact section to select. Would I count on it? Nope, I would go the extra 8-10 dollars and rent a compact.

I was just in WDW....they had a selection of cars in the economy....little tiny cars...like the Aveo size.....the compacts were bigger...not much.

Just an inqluiry: How much luggage are you bringing and will 3 people fit in a little car with luggage?

We just had a Fullsize which was a Toyota Camry and we could fit just 4 pieces of luggage in the trunk of that car.

Full Size last week were Camry...Caliber...Malibu. I always wonder how people fit all their stuff in the little cars. Or maybe it is we bring too much "stuff" with us. Or it feels that way. LOL :rotfl:

I would do my homework...you can cancel a ressie with Alamo at any time and book another.

Go to carrentalsavers.com to start...get a couple of codes and coupons and book a larger car.

Coupons that don't need to be presented state it.
Use your visa...MC or AMEX...they all have codes and coupons available.
Travel comfortably. It will make your trip more magical if your not holding the luggage on the roof going down the highway.

Thanks, I booked it as part of a package through Expedia (we got a good rate) I would have to upgrade at the counter. Its just me, DH, and DD8. We are only taking 3 carry one size bags so I'm thinking we should be ok but good, albeit maybe a bit tight.

If we get to the lot and we really can't make it work then can we go back to the counter to upgrade?

I used to work at a car rental company in Boston and we had Aveos as the economy class, that was back in 2008 and they were crappy lil cars.

did they look like newer model Aveo's? Site says a Chevy Spark or similiar - here's for hoping its not an Aveo!

No my DH said they were Aveos and some other tiny model....there were a bunch....we commented at the time about our "haul" and those little cars.

We rent 6-7 times per year down there with Alamo...my DH said to go to the hut out in the garage and just "ask" for an upgrade. It honestly works for us when we don't like the full size they have. We outside upgraded to a BMW X3 SUV our trip in December. He asks...nicely.
When we get out to the check out kiosk we just tell them we were upgraded indoors. We present our paperwork and we have NEVER had a problem. I will be there again for Memorial day....good luck. Happy trip.

Thanks so much for your help! I guess I will just ask when we get to the garage if we can pick out of the compact isle, doesn't hurt to ask worse they can say is no.

All of Alamo's cars are newer models correct? within the past year or two?

When you get to the garage, there will be a greeter to assist you. Show them your paperwork and they will direct you and unless something has changed since I worked there, they will direct you to the compact row. I have never seen more than 3 econs. at any given time there.

You won't need to go back inside to the counter if you chose to upgrade, they have a customer service booth in the garage and they can handle those types of requests.
