We fly with VA and saw this (or however its phrased lol) on their website. We have DS listed as a lap passenger but are thinking maybr we would have been wiser to have gotten him his own seat! The price to pay for him originally was huge but after seeing this it has me wondering if its an option. Anyone know? Hes a terrible fuss pot and arches his back to get down all the time, the closer it gets the more anxious I get! If this isn't an option does anyone have any advice or tips for us other than paying full price for a seat for him? Thanks guys :goodvibes

I thought about for DD too as she is a terror for sitting still. But we were really surprised how good she was in the flight. I know there are a few of you so may be each time one of you has to pop to the loo take him with you just for the walk and to her out the seat. We had loads of small toys for the £1 shop I bought about 10 and have her 1 or 2 every hour. I managed to get things like colouring books and crayons. Doctors set, tea set, coins and a little piggy bank she loves putting the coins in and taking them out and starting again, toy cars. With they only being from the £1 shop I wasn't bothered if they lost parts or were left on the plane. Also had an I pad loaded up with mickeys club house toy story, some of her favourite apps. I also got some kids head phones so she could watch the entertainment on the plane.

Our flight was so quiet on the way out we could have had a row each. I would have been gutted if we had paid for an extra seat when there were so many empty next to us. Again on the way home there were plenty of empty seats.

I think it's a reasonable idea but it really depends on what you're concerned about. Getting a little one to sit still, not pull their belt off and try to get up is going to be more of a challenge if they're in a different seat and you can't cling on to them! I guess the answer is whatever you think will make your journey less difficult. We travelled to FL with my (then) 15 month old God son who was a monster to say the least and for the most part he was fine. The key is to find things to occupy them.

with the prices as they are, I too wouldnt have bothered buying a seat. :goodvibes

Sounds like theres a few of you, so youll be able to take it in turn.
As pp suggested, take them for a walk each time someone gets up. Although dont rely on this too much as the seatbelt signs tend to be on a lot. Also when they have the trolleys out, there isnt much room in the aisle.
Great idea to buy loads of things to keep them occupied. :thumbsup2
Hopefully he will surprise you and be good on the flight.
I too would hope the flight wasnt too full. on our recent flights there were a few spare seats. So they asked parent with children on their laps if theyd like to use those seats too.

It may be worth calling about seat plus just to see how much it is and if its available for your flight.
Good luck. :wizard:

We flew with my daughter at 22 months and bought extra leg room, she had space to play at our feet etc. She was actually very well behaved and we had a great flight with her. We're taking our 10 month old son in 5 weeks and I having a feeling it probably won't go as smoothly!

Thanks for the replies everyone :goodvibes DH called about Seat Plus this morning and its not available on our outbound flight anyway so that ideas out the window lol.
I think my main concern is that he simply HATES to sit still for long. He has been known to throw a full on tantrum if he doesn't get his way and I suppose I'm really anxious about that and its effect on other passengers! I've bought some things to keep him entertained like re-useable stickers, couple of books, an old wallet filled with papers etc, finger puppets, kinda lost as to what else to get that is small. Must try the £1 shop! And the piggy bank idea is genius!! He'd love that! I'm finding it hard to get excited about the trip cause I'm so worried about the flight!

Trust me I was a state and didn't sleep for about a week before we went away I stressed so much. I broke down and started crying and said I didn't want to go because I was so worried about DD on the plane.

If he is up early and keep him awake at the airport hopefully he will be tired once you get on board.

DD is a nightmare literally. We don't use a push chair any more as she physically won't let me put her in there. Hates the car seat and literally doesn't sit still or nap all day. Friends say their kids are full if energy then they meet DD and they take it back DD can out run most people. She doesn't stop all day. Hates the car seat hates the high chair. But honestly the flight was fine. It's broken up with drinks and food there is the inboard entertainment. DD was given a kids pack which wasn't great but kept her amused for a while. Hopefully you will get bulk head seats and he can sit in the floor and play there.

Thanks for that Leanne! You're helping a lot :goodvibes I'm wondering should I see about paying for extra leg room seats or should I stick with the group of us - more people for him to sit with might be the better option. Will sounds very like Elsie, hates being strapped down at all, car seat, push chair, high chair - kicks off terrible! He's getting better in the buggy from weeks of easing him into it but an airplane is different to say the least lol.
Good tip about keeping him up at the airport. We leave Dublin at 8.40am, connecting flight in Gatwick departs 1pm. We live about 2 hours from the airport so we'll have been up early that morning. He'll be tired and probably nap several times on and off. He doesnt sleep too well in our arms but hes simply too big for a sky cot so we'll just have to make do!

It's hard because you also don't want then to get over tired. We just kept Elsie busy at the airport they had a soft play area that was great for her.

Hopefully having lots of family will help distract him from any tantrums. When we go next time Elsie has 7 adults to entertain her. I just hope she doesn't find the soft one that gives in to her and let's her run. Lol.

She's a night mare with being strapped in. Now she is bigger and able to climb in and out her seat at the table she is better but when she's put in a high chair it's terrible. Our car looks like toys r us we have so much in there to try and distract her from the fact she's strapped in lol.

Hopefully he will surprise you just like Elsie surprised us.

I know it's hard but try to worry about what other people think, kids will be kids and flying to somewhere like Orlando is mainly family orientated so most passengers have probably been in a similar situation! It's only 8 and half hours out of your 2 weeks holiday so even if its bad dont let it stop you from being excited. If possible see if you can get seats allocated across a full row in the plane if that's a big group then your little one can walk up and down the row!! Does he have a favourite programme if so buy it on dvd and take a little DVD player. Lots of snacks works for us too!!

Thanks for thw encouraging words :goodvibes Feeling a bit better today, a little less anxious anyway! What will be will be and I just have to keep telling myself that or I'll become a complete mess lol!
