Economy plus restroom question

Now with the addition of economy plus to many flights, I'm wondering--do the people in that section have providence over the restroom near them, and are the people in basic economy not supposed to use it? I'm traveling with someone who likes to be near the restroom, so I'm wondering if I need to book towards the back of the plane, or if we could still use the lav near the middle of the aircraft. I don't want to commit any airplane faux pas!

I don’t think the restroom at the front is actually reserved for first class. I know I’ve heard that announcement in the past, but I haven’t heard it recently. I’ve flown on United and American (and Southwest, but that’s irrelevant) in the past month.

If there is a dedicated first class section on a plane, then the bathroom(s) at the front of the plane is/are reserved for first class passengers. Usually there is a curtain or other line of demarcation to show where one section ends and the next one begins.

If you're flying across the ocean, some planes do have a dedicated restroom for economy plus in the center of the plane near those seats. I haven't (yet) seen a domestic flight with a dedicated restroom for economy plus, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You can always ask a flight attendant if you need more information about which restrooms to use.

Hope you have a great flight!!

Different US-based airlines have different policies on the use of the restrooms at the front of the plane. I can't seem to find actual policies for each airline on their websites, however. But, I've definitively heard a "the restrooms in the front are reserved but our first class passengers" announcement on a semi-recent flight. I want to say it was Delta, but don't quote me on that.
