Just to let you know (if anyone is interested), the Econo Lodge that used to be located across the road from the Bishop Airport in Flint is no longer there - it has been demolished. There are doing some construction there but unsure if it is going to be a new motel/hotel complex.

We have stayed there the last two years and had planned on it this year for our December/05 trip. We are now booked into the Days Inn just to the West of the airport so hopefully it will meet our needs. Anyone else stayed there???

Just 47 days to go before our trip.....can't wait.

That would explain why it doesn't give you any rates when you enter your dates on the web site. We stayed at the EconoLodge on our one and only trip from Flint, but I found it kinda spooky - maybe it was the 3" thick plexiglass the desk clerk sat behind. :confused3

We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott which isn't too far from the airport, and it was very clean and comfortable, and included a nice breakfast.

Hi there,
We flew out of Flint this past March Break and thought we'd book a room - I ended up booking the room through Hotwire (no luck Priceline) and once we arrived realizing what a terrible mistake I made. The Days Inn located right across from a large factory, abandoned cars with no wheels were in the parking lot. It was dark and run down. The check Inn clerk was better suited behind a bar as she answered the phone telling them "I'm busy , call back later" and slammed the phone down each time. Pretty rough. I had two rooms booked for two families - we each had two kids and everyone was there at the desk to check in. It was obvious we needed to beds per room but she thought different. She insisted that she had no reservations for us and she could only give us a king room - I showed her our prepaid reservations etc. and she was really snippy. Finally she agreed to set us up with rooms, and then attempted to charge us for the rooms! I explained it was prepaid - she just didn't get it! She said she was charging us $35 for the room upgrade from a King room to a room with 2 double beds. It was after 9pm and we had to be out of the room by 5am - I had to keep my cool and just get us our rooms. I told her that I checked the website and there was no price difference between the rooms and that we'd like to speak to the manager. She changed her tune quick and said she is not to bother him and I can deal with him in the morning and that he doesn't speak good English etc. So, then she tries to do the same with my friends room which was prepaid as well. We finally got our rooms at the back of the 2 story walk-up - the doors barely closed, but we had 2 beds and it was modestly clean. The rooms were 70's style and I'm not exaggerating - the bathroom countertop was an old metal type with a porch spindle holding up the end - major cig burns all over and the kids did not want to use the toilet. Pretty cobbled together and there seemed to be alot of furniture (microwave cabinet/fridge and wardrobe cupboard) Looked more like a long stay kind of room - probably for transients. There was lots of traffic in the parking lot at night and I worried our vehicles would end up with a smashed window like the SUV next to us! It was kind of freaky and burns a big hole in our memory that we occasionally laugh about. But it was close to the airport.
I don't laugh too loud as I was the sucker who booked it. Never again for the Flint Days Inn nor Hotwire! So the Residence Inn would be much better!

I decided to have a quick look on Expedia, and I see the Days Inn rates 1.5 stars. Only the Super 8's and HoJo rate lower. The Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriot both rate 3 stars, but their room rates are substantially higher (but that could be a case of getting what you pay for). We stayed at the Baymont at DTW the last time we flew from Detroit, and if the one in Flint is as nice that's another option as well.

Thanks everyone so much for all your advice and tips. We have cancelled the Days Inn and booked in at the Baymont Inn which is about 5-6 miles from the airport which will work perfectly.

I am so glad that I posted this message, we are travelling with a group of 8 people and my Husband and I have done all of the arrangements, bookings, etc. and we definitely didn't want the first night to start off badly.

Thanks again, nice to be able to count on everyone here for their honest advice.
