Nah, we were arrogant. Bad losers, too.

Terrorists know that the only way to defeat American is to weaken the hearts of those on the homefront. Our President's heart and the heart of our military remains strong. Unfortunately, some Americans on the homefront have weakened already. (Some have weakened simply because they hate our President).

Allowing liberty to come second place to paltry security measures is weakness. Eroding the principles that America is meant to stand for is weakness. Descending into the realm of 1984 without a fight is weakness.

With George Bush doing exactly what the terrorists want, America has already lost. It's a sad loss of a great nation that once stood defiant of terror and war, a nation that once held it's principals on high for the world to follow.

Now all we hear about are fables of torture, war, death, spying and lies.

There was incredible arrogance on both sides. Were it not for Washington's Council of War, demanded by the Continental Congress, Washington would have made several severe tactical errors throughout the war. This was especially true in the early days of 1776 when he desperately wanted to engage the British army, but lacked the troop strength to mount a full assault. Then read some of the correspondence of the time from some of his generals and you'll see how quickly the Americans despaired of ever seeing victory and what bad losers we were, too. It is simply amazing that we won given how little experience any American had in military matters.
