Ebayers - what feedback would you leave?

I really appreciate you all taking the time to tell me what you think. I would hate to regret leaving a feedback that wasn't warranted, and I will not.

My gut still tells me this buyer could be a problem for others, but...

Lessons learned: be clear about when I ship and what different types of delivery methods may entail. :wizard:

I think some of you are being hard on the OP. I won an auction a few months ago from someone who had an ebay store. She stated that she ships within 24 hours of payment. Well I paid immediately after the auction ended and still 10 days later I had not rec'd. I emailed seller without response. I posted on the ebay forums to ask if slow shipment and non response warranted a negative response. I was not-so-gently told that sellers technically have 30 days to send an item (even if stated otherwise) and that as long as I rec'd the item in good condition I should not leave a neg. I see no reason why the OP needs to be faulted for waiting a few days to mail the package. It was only 3 (business) days.
I think those people are wrong, frankly. I think sellers should be crystal clear about their practices and if a problem arises where they cannot do what they stated in the auction, they should notify the buyer asap.

Miscommunication is a big problem on Ebay and I think sellers are really abusing the trust when they do not ship in a timely manner. (I am talking more about syour situation than the OP right now)

As far as the OP, I am not trying to be hard on her, I am explaining why I think people get miffed when shipping is slow. I do not think the media mail issue was the problem. I think the buyer saw that she didn't ship it until monday and was miffed because payment was received on thursday.

To the OP. A better question ot ask is why is neutral feedback considered so bad on ebay. Maybe the newbie doesn't know this and thinks neutral is actually neutral.

Beth, those sellers were full of it. A seller is repsonsible for honoriing the terms of the sale as stated in the auction. Just because eBay won't come after them for non-performance until 30 days, that doesn't mean that they have 30 days to get off their rumps when they have agreed in the auction to ship the day after payment and to expect a positive rating if they take 3 weeks to even ship it when they promised it the next day.

That having been said, leaving negative feedback usually brings retaliatory feedback. 93% positive is not all that great a rating considering that fact.

That is a good point. I actually do consider a neutral as just that.

I think of it as satisfied with most of the transaction, but one or another thing could have been better. So, I don't see it as a negative.

I think its a shame she left you neutral feedback before emailing you directly.

I also don't think it ethical of you to give her neutral (or negative) feedback in retaliation. We went over this the other day on another thread, but I think her part of the bargain was upheld when she paid you and she should be given feedback accordingly. If it were me, I'd give her positive feedback with an explanation about the shipping by media mail, and figure this is one of the many drawbacks to buying and selling on ebay. I'm a casual seller and buyer too, but have been doing a lot of ebaying lately with the holidays coming up and I've had just about enough of it, truth be told. I don't like all the games that are played between seller and buyer and back again. If everyone just played ethically it would be o.k., but of course that is not the case.

Good luck with this transaction. You sincerely seem like an honest person to me, I hope it works out for you in the end.
