I sure this has been discussed to death, so if you don't mind could you humor a newcomer. I'm just now starting to get into pins, but I won't get into full swing until I hit WDW this June. Hopefully I'll acquire enough to start trading.

In the mean time I've been checking out pins on ebay. Is it worth it to buy from there or will I be overpaying? As of right now I want to collect mainly Beauty and the Beast pins. I see several of them that I'd like to have posted on ebay, none of them all that expensive. Mainly the five to fifteen dollar range. This leads to a second question. Is this a good way to get started or should I hold off in hopes of trading for what I want later on?

Thanks for any opinions.

The honest answer is -- it depends on the pin. $15 for an open stock pin that's still on the racks, isn't going anywhere, and you can get on your next trip is too much. $15 for a LE that retailed around $10.50-$12.50 isn't bad. It also depends on if it's a LE, retired, or where it's from. If you're not going to be in Paris or Tokyo anytime in the near future, it might be worth it.

Best question to ask yourself is "how much do I really want this pin?"

Have good merits and bad points.
I have been able to buy bargains and pins even cheaper than what I could get in a trade.
Just watch yourself.
Don't pay too much.
Watch what you are being charged for shipping. Most sellers will even combine shipping. When they do, I buy more than one pin. If they won't combine shipping I rarely buy from them period.
Set a limit and don't go over. That pin will be on an auction again (most likely) if you lose out that time.
