Ebay - WWYD?

Should the seller have shipped by Friday? Yes; in an ideal world, which we don't live in. Technically, according to ebay/paypal, the seller has 10 days to ship, and they are still within that window. They responded to your email quickly, they were truly apologetic and assured you it would ship the next day then you responded to their very nice response with a snotty-sounding demanding one of your own (may not be how you meant it, but that is how it comes across to readers)? I'm with the others who would just refund and be "done" with you as a customer. Heck, as a long-time ebay buyer, I'm thrilled when they ship within a week - no matter what is stated in the auction - because as a former seller I am well aware of how things can come up to delay shipping no matter how good my intentions.

One thing to consider - does the seller have a history of delayed shipping (would be reflected in feedback) or does it look like this is a one-off thing where something beyond the seller's control just happened to delay shipping ?

I was hoping to read a reply from the OP. I guess not :(

Followed up earlier yesterday (Wednesday). I have the pants today. After I wash them (cat hair on the fleece uppers) they will be fine.

Still haven't left feedback - I may do positive, because I got what I ordered, but add that they weren't shipped as the seller promised, only after I reminded them. Or I may not leave any at all.

Thanks for the opinions.

Thanks for the update! It sounds like you got your package overnight after all ;). Take your time on the FB until you know what you want to say.

Glad you got the pants but wanted to let you know I agree w/ you. I would agree w/ most of the others _IF_ she had not specifically said '2-day shipping'. But she did and that puts her in a category (that she put herself in) of being held to a higher standard. That statement was meant to be an inducer to buyers - it was - and then she didnt do as promised. She shouldnt have offered it if she coudn't produce. I would leave a negative on that one issue alone. (And I dont think you were wrong to ask for overnight based on her stated deliverery time). Congrats on getting them.:thumbsup2

See, that's the biggest part of the issue I have had with the transaction - I hold sellers to the same standard I maintain as a seller - I state (in my sales auctions) I will ship the following business day after payment, and I do. I've never not shipped when I promised I would, even planning auctions so that I knew I would be available to ship as promised.

Were these the black bibs? If so, seller it says seller USUALLY ships two BUSINESS days following payment. Since that auction didn't end until late Wed night, paying on the 6th meant nothing b/c it's very likely seller didn't get the email from paypal to even know they paid until Thursday. Saturday is not a business day so I agree with PPs who think it went out one day late if mailed on Tuesday. Hopefully, since you needed them ASAP, you're out in the snow today and enjoying your purchase.

If not though... Since you mentioned padding shipping costs, I'm curious as to whether you checked the usps label to see the actual postage. The auction didn't specify priority mail or UPS and $10 seems very reasonable for shipping XL mens snowbibs to me, even by parcel post which would have taken much longer.

With feedback from both buying and seller in the thousands on each of three accounts, I always consider timely to be anything received within 10-14 days of purchase. Just because something is located nearby, doesn't always mean that it will reach you sooner. I've shipped packages to nearby Hanover, Pa - just 15 miles north of us at the same time that I shipped a pckg to CA. The package to CA - all the way across the country - arrived the day before the one that only had to travel 15 miles. Sometimes distance from the seller is irrelevant but the distance destination is from the sorting location or airport can make all the difference.

Frankly, after reading your comments here - and looking at your feedback left for previous sellers on ebay - I'd be very nervous selling to you. No offense, but welcome to my blocked bidder list...

I would definitely not leave a negative feedback for such a minor issue.

The way that the feedback/power seller rules are currently set up, one negative feedback really could jeopardize a person's livelyhood. Therefore, I reserve them for when something is really bad.

:thumbsup2 ITA. I don't think a lot of buyers recognize that.

Looking at the bib seller's DSRs, it appears that even a positive with low stars could put this very low volume seller out of business. No way, would I want that on my conscious unless you really ripped me off badly. In today's economy, there's no way to know if the ebay income might be needed to pay the mortgage or put food on the table. :sad2:

You must be seeing something that I am not. I see someone who never leaves anything but positive feedback, but sometimes mentions issues. I have no problem with that, at all.

Someone who mentions small issues - small overcharge on postage? 9 days to get via parcel post? a neutral - likely also leaves low stars. You might be able to survive a neutral or negative without too much damage but 1s & 2s will put a seller out of business in today's new, improved ebay marketplace. Maybe it's just me, but I dread the positive negatives more than an actual neg these days...

That was a good one!

Well, how about a brief mention of the quality, then "shipped later than stated"? Or, "expected sooner"?

Seriously - since you took the time to read my feedback since I started doing ebay transactions in 2001 - you would see I have left 4 neutral ratings - in 9 years!

The shipping was $7 something to send the pants - in a recycled (no charge to the seller) box, with ups picking up from their business - reasonable shipping to me for the item.

The seller dropped the ball on shipping when they said they would. As far as the auction ending time/paypal email, those are instant - whether the seller checked their email or not,my money went into their account on Wednesday - after you mentioned the auction said "usually" ships within 2 days, I looked again, you are right, it does say "usually" in one spot, however, in the shipping section, it says "ships within 2 days"... btw, "within 2 days" doesn't usually mean "after" 2 days - within 2 days means the item should have shipped Thursday or Friday.

As far as being a blocked bidder... okay, if that makes you feel better. I'm such a horrible buyer - I fulfill my transaction obligations and and expect the seller to do the same.

Wow. That's really mean. Maybe we should all add "dancemom03" and "erexia sk8wear" to our mental blocked seller list. Feel free to add me you your blocked bidder list too :rolleyes1.

I don't get why everyone is cutting the seller so much slack either.

The seller is absolutely permitted to have life interrupt their ebay sale. It probably would have gone a long way (and we wouldn't have this thread) if the seller had said "I'm sorry I didn't ship within the 2 days mentioned on the listing. I had a personal situation come up that prohibited me from shipping this out." Or an admission that it slipped their mind that they needed to ship. Even a vague explanation is better than something that essentially says "Sorry. I'll ship it now that you've asked for it."

I think the seller was kind of short and could have been more gracious. I don't think it unreasonable for the buyer to request overnight shipping for the same cost or reduced shipping since it was shipping so much later than stated. However, I do think you should have mentioned in your communications that the listing stated that it would ship within two days of payment and it obviously hadn't. Maybe they didn't realize that was in the listing - left out the "usually" on the shipping tab.

I too, normally, wouldnt give a negative for a late package and I've gotten some pretty dang late ones! I didn't even leave neutral, because as many of you have said, 'these things happen'. BUT, the big difference to me is, the promised date - she didnt HAVE to do that - she added her own risk there.

If the OP bought the pants for the fast shipping alone (ie, they are leaving for a ski trip in 4 days...) then OP is out the pants she bid on simply because the seller shouldnt have posted that offer and that's not fair to OP. Why didnt the seller just use Ebays standard shipping blurb if she wasn't going to go the extra mile to 'ship within 2 days'? If it weren't for her offer of fast shipping I wouldnt leave negative either .... but it was the sellers mistake, not the OP's.

Having been a former seller and buyer for several years, I can see both sides of this situation - minus the request for overnight shipping..

It's also one of the reasons that I no longer bother with eBay.. Just not worth the hassles; fees; waiting for items to be shipped; postal increases; etc.. Craigslist works much, much better for us..:goodvibes
