which is best overall for selling children's clothing?

I've already done the garage sale thing and still have a ton of fall/winter name brand children's clothes left. I was thinking about taking them to OUAC but now I'm starting to think ebay. I've sold kid's clothes on ebay before and haven't done so well and I'm not sure if I'm ready to give it another shot, but I've never sold to OUAC either so I'm not sure what to expect from them. Any thought?

I have been disappointed w/ OUAC lately...they used to pay $2-3/item, now it is $1 or less, and they take very little. (I have Ltd Too, GAP, Polo, etc. and only clothing in excellent condition...I never know what they will take!)

Personally I prefer to buy lots...I'm not paying $3/item shipping! But I have seen many posts here that say individual items.

I'd say take a bunch to OUAC for convenience and sell the rest on ebay.

OUAC is so picky, they really make me nuts! You might let them pick out the few things they'll take then go the ebay route. I've had better luck at local independent consignment shops. Do you have any other options where you live?

I voted for ebay but there are pros and cons to both. OUAC is very picky and you will get less, but once you sell your clothes to them you are done with it. No waiting for payments and the sometimes hassle of the customers. I guess it just boils down to how much time and effort you are willing to spend.

I wouldn' waste my time with OUAC around here they will only take one bag or box at a time and they usually only pick out one or two items and offer a couple of bucks. Usually they tell me the clothes are out of style (they were new last year) most of the clothes are Osh Kosh, Carters, Limited Too, American Eagle, Holister and Old Navy. I have done much better on Ebay.

That's some good information to know about OUAC. If they aren't going to take all of it anyhow so that I can just be done with it then I might as well sell it on ebay. Although I'm not looking forward to another ebay episode either. That can be agravating also with all the work put into to the listings, then the fees and finally hoping that you get a good buyer. All of the stuff I have to sell is all name brand (gap, RL, gymboree, old navy) and most of it was new last year, so I can't bring myself to give it away just to be rid of it.
There is one other consignment shop around I think I'll give them a call to see what their policy is, although I'm afraid that since OUAC is so big around here that they might be following their guidelines.

Has anyone done OUAC for baby cribs? I have a simmons crib with mattress that is in great condition and it didn't sell in the yard sale. I was looking to take it there next weekend. Do they offer you a good amount for them?

I also think Ebay for clothes... OUAC runs the clothes through a special light and if there are any little bit of stain (even those unseen by the eye) they will not take them.

Are there any seasonal consignment sales in your area? It may be too late for fall/winter sales, but you might catch a holiday sale.

I think they are definitely the way to go! More money than a resale shop, less work than eBay, and as a seller, I get to shop first for what the kids need right now!

I have always had the best luck with seasonal consignment sales put on by local churches, individuals, etc. Usually you price your own stuff and they give you specific instructions for everything. You get to shop first and you usually get anywhere from 40-60% of the sales. You can charge more per item and if you have nice name-brand stuff it will sell. I only ebay my boutique Stasburg, Hanna Andersson, and American Girl since they always bring in the $$.

I take my large items and clothing to UOAC. Mine doesn't seem to care as much about the brand as the condition and style. They take almost everything, as long as I don't check the box to donate unwanted items. I think it's ironic that when I check that box, they don't want much of my stuff, but if I ask for the items back they take everything!

The one thing I try not to take there is toys. They give you nothing for them. I would rather give them away. On the plus side, it is a great store to buy toys at really cheap prices.

I've done better than both with It's Deductible software. The amount that the program allows for children's clothing is quite generous: two big trash bag's worth for charity netted us over $500 for a charitable donation deduction.

Maybe search and see if clothing sells. It's nice because no fees and no shipping. People come pick it up or you can meet in safe neutral location.

I just got a loft bed for $50....Woo Hoo!

I get to keep 70% at the sale I participate in--I just got my check for the fall sale and I made $624

However, I do buy things at garage sales to resell so I had alot more then the average person just cleaning up clutter. And it's alot of work getting everything washed, priced, etc.

The payoff makes it worthwhile, though. I would never take my clothes to OUAC, I know the one around here only gives you 25% of what they plan to sell the item for. I don't have any boutique items, so Ebay isn't worth the effort to me.
