Ebay Users - A Question

Hi all,

We're just selling some stuff on Ebay and one our listings ended this evening. We specifically stated on the listing (very very clearly, no way it could be mistaken) that we do not sell outside the UK. This is because recently we've had loads of stuff go missing and we're worried about getting trouble from buyers. However some intelligent soul from Spain has jumped in at the last minute and bought the item

Do we have any recourse to say no to them and put the item on a 2nd chance offer to the next guy down the list? Scott has said we could demand them pay for insured post to Spain but I'm panicky about negative feedback plus the fact they have totally ignored what we wrote just gets my back up!

Any ideas?

yes if your listing clearly said no shipping outside the uk, inform the person from spain that you can not ship to there, wait for an answer, then offer it to the other bidder

If your auction quite clearly states that you will not ship outwith the UK then inform the buyer from Spain that you are unable to despatch the item. You could then offer item as a second chance offer.

It really ticks me off when people do this. I don't sell on eBay, only buy but if a seller clearly states that they will not ship to the UK then I certainly don't make a bid on the item. At the very least the buyer could have emailed you and asked if you would be prepared to ship to Spain.

You do not have to sell if you put in your auction that you ship to uk only.

They is an option on ebay where you check a box and it blocks people from bidding from countries where you do not ship to.

In my ebay click on Preferences and there is a list of option in which you can Customise. Click on show on buyer requirements and then edit. You can also block buyers with no payment strikes, and negative feed back score.

If you have any problems with buyers they is a help board in community where regulars give advice. A word of warning do not post on this board with your selling ID.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago, I do normally sell worldwide, but this item was quite heavy and I didnt think anyone would pay the postage from abroad, so I sent an email to the person concerned informing him that I was not shipping this item abroad as it was to heavy and it clearly stated that in the description, he did reply, a bit dissapointed but understanding enough that he had not read the description fully, I then sold it as a second chance offer to somebody from the UK.

My DH had exactly this happen - it was for an expensive record deck and the buyer was from Italy. DH shipped it in the end - the guy paid for the extra postage.

But later the guy said the deck wasnt working - he reckoned he'd paid a shop more money to check it out and he wanted his money back for the supposedly faulty deck and his 'repair costs'. We had checked it before we sent it so knew he was lying. The buyer went to ebay arbitration and DH won but it was a lot of hassle and worry.

As others have said I'd inform the buyer politely, but firmly that auction stated only ship to the UK.
I've had buyers from elsewhere ask for it to be sent to a friend in the UK

He has asked for it to be shipped to a friend in London. We've made sure all the message to him go direct through Ebay and have clearly written that we will not refund or be held responsible if it goes missing in the mail (even if he pays the extra for registered delivery - if it goes missing it's Royal Mail's fault.) He has agreed to these terms in full so we will ship to London. Grrrrrrr

I do this with caution If he payed by paypal. you need to be careful when not sending items to the address that is confimed with paypal. he could sart a dispute and say that he has not got the item he could win.
If you are sending the item to any address In the UK or WorldWide make sure that you send the item recorded delivery so that you have got proof of postage, and can check if it has arrived. If it does go missing paypal will hold you responsible if you do not send by recoreded delivery or special delivery.

I would only post if he pays the extra for recoreded delivery. Recorded delivery is to protect the seller NOT buyer.

If he payed a another method such as cheque you should be ok as he will not be able to charge back.

If you are sending the item to any address In the UK or WorldWide make sure that you send the item recorded delivery so that you have got proof of postage, and can check if it has arrived. If it does go missing paypal will hold you responsible if you do not send by recoreded delivery or special delivery.

That's a good point. As normal proof of posting is no guarantee of delivery. Someone needs to have signed for something, so recorded is way to go
