Ebay temporarily discontinuing cash back through Ebates and other rewards programs

Received this email from Ebates a few minutes ago...thought this would be of interest, since I know that lots of us use rebate programs. The note mentions that other rewards programs will also be affected, but as of yet I haven't heard anything from Fat Wallet, which is the other program I use.

We are sorry to inform you that eBay is temporarily suspending cash back shopping with Ebates.com (and all other rewards-based programs) on June 16.

Because we know cash back is important to you, we want you to have the chance to make any eBay purchases by June 15 and still earn cash back from Ebates.

We plan to bring eBay back to Ebates.com by October 1 this year.

In the meantime, don't worry... Ebates continues to offer the world's best cash back shopping experience and will be sending out a series of special offers at your other favorite stores.

I got the same email from ebates this morning. I confirmed that it also affects Mr. Rebates (normally 3% back on ebay purchases.) I confirmed by phone with ebay, too. Online chat with two different people at ebay got me no where. They have no clue.

The person I spoke to at ebay didn't know anything about the October 1 date to resume, only that the cash back programs were being eliminated other than ebay's own ebay bucks program.

I made sure to take advantage of this offer. I do use MyPoints for alot of online purchases and EBay. These websites that link to places like EBay that offer rewards, really do incourage me to buy things online that I would otherwise buy at a local store.

Very good point. I make a point to check the reward sites before making many purchases too.

Just got the notice from Fat Wallet...cash back discontinued after June 16th.

At eBay's request, in accord with a test they are conducting over the next
several months, we will be suspending eBay cash back. This means eBay will
not be offering cash back on any site, including FatWallet, for purchases
made on or after 6/16.

We will let you know as soon as eBay cash back resumes. We are sorry for any

what if you go through ebates bid today and the auction doesn't end until next week? do you still get the cashback?

I'm assuming if you click through to ebay from ebates before midnight on the 15th, you'll get the tracking number that tells you the cashback will be paid. I am not positive though.

It's a pity, but there is a workaround:

The cashback programs on eBay.ca still work. You just need to add the item you want to your wish list; sign up for a canadian cashback program and use it on eBay.ca

I think the one with the bigger discount (2%) is greatcanadianrebates.ca

I'm assuming if you click through to ebay from ebates before midnight on the 15th, you'll get the tracking number that tells you the cashback will be paid. I am not positive though.

The "click-thru" does not record until you process payment for the item... You'd not only have to win by the end date, but my understanding is that you'd also have to pay for the item before then too.

the weird thing is I am still getting emails from ebates for ebay transactions since they cut it off but when I go to my account the cashback does not show
