so here's the thing about ebay and the question... buyer buys your item - let's say it's perfect condition.

buyer gets to 'claim' it's not and wants a refund or will leave you negative feedback, contact paypal and ebay.......

ebay processes refund, buyer never returns item (why would she) and possibly still leaves you negative feedback . You cannot post that buyer is lying or cheating. Seller can't post any feedback for buyer????

wow. and um, NO thanks.

I returned a video game recently and the seller was able to leave me positive feedback. It was all done through eBay as a cancelled purchase. Are you the seller in this situation?

I thought sellers could post feedback for buys? But maybe that has changed.

I don't know, I know there are some dishonest people but I've always had a lot of luck selling on ebay.

I've been selling and buying on eBay for years (a few dozen items per year) and have never had this problem. Although I have encountered a few issues here and there, (once I made a mistake and once a seller did) the seller/buyer has always worked with me to make things right, for the most part. eBay themselves, is a good company to work with and if you have a valid claim I can't imagine them not helping you resolve it.

Also, once someone received 3 negative feedback ratings eBay can choose to ban them. But your are right, if someone wanted to be dishonest they probably could do so in this type of forum. I like to think that most people are honest, though. Good luck, if you decide to use eBay.:)

This is not how it works.

1. A buyer cannot get a refund for an item not returned to the seller.

2. You can't stop a buyer from leaving you negative feedback, but sellers can leave buyers feedback. They just can't leave negative feedback. You can still state in the feedback what happened.

you can't leave negative feedback for buyers. as far as i'm looking at it. it looks like positive or nothing.

No, i'm not selling. Have heard this from several sellers on ebay now who are unhappy due to this. Doesn't seem fair.

Had a similar issue. The person bought a Vita version of a game, and thought it was the PS3 version. That's still a mystery, as the picture and description stated it was the vita version, and the title. Plus the PS3 version goes for twice as much.

They sent threatening messages about demanding a refund, they were going to leave negative feedback, and if they didn't get a refund they would do a charge back with their credit card company. Ebay DOES NOT like charge backs and has banned users for it. My bf called ebay about the buyer, and they noted the account. When the person left negative feedback, ebay instantly removed it when he called them. Biggest hassle, but at least ebay has notes on the account of what this buyer is doing.

There's bad apples, but probably a 100 more good apples to make up for it. Although dealing with ebay's policies and stuff is a whole other matter and headache.

We have had a few occasions recently where a buyer stated the item was not as described even though it was. One shirt had the measurements in the auction the buyer said it didnt fit so it was not as described

So what ebay has done when the buyer filed, is give the buyer a full refund including shipping, let them keep the item and not charged me for it. Now I am happy that they didnt count it against me but geez way to create even more problem buyers

:confused3

That's what I already posted.

Point being: what good is feedback if it's not honest? IOW - You can't respond or defend yourself by stating that the buyers accusations are false and / or lying.

???

There has to be a choice where the seller can also leave NEGATIVE feedback for a lousy buyer. NOT just feedback (which essentially is positive if not negative).

This is what happened to me and why I quit selling on Ebay.

I think the way eBay is doing it now makes sense even though it makes it not worthwhile to be a seller there for most people. I can leave negative feedback about Kohls or Target in a number of places online but they cannot leave negative feedback about me.

I'm a pretty high-volume Ebay seller, and I've had this exact scenario happen more times than I can count in the past year. The item is properly described, the scamming buyer then claims that it wasn't as described, refuses to return it when we offer to take it back as a courtesy, and files a claim with Ebay. Ebay then refunds they buyer themselves but does not hold it against the seller. Oh, and the buyer can STILL leave a negative, as that happened to us once in this exact scenario. They got a full-on freebie but they left a neg:furious:

When I contacted Ebay about this, they said that they "watch" these buyers, and that doing the scenario above counts as an incident against the buyer's account. I've yet to see any buyers who have done this to us go NARU though, so I don't know if Ebay really watches them for a pattern of scamming. Some of them try the same scam over and over if their "feedback left for others" is any indication.

All that said, I've become pretty astute at preventing problem buyers like these. They are pretty predictable in that they often tend to email before purchasing with a LOT of strange questions. When they do that, I block them before they can even purchase. It saves a lot of headaches...not a foolproof method, but it has cut down on the number of scammers we deal with.

In all my experiences (been a seller since 1997) buyer must PROVE item was returned through tracking before they get the refund. There are some icky sneaky dishonest buyers out there, but overall, I have good experiences. When I have a trouble maker I take back the item, refund them and block them. You can leave explanations on negative feedback. One thing that DOES drive me nuts..no matter what Ebay says..is that they side with the buyer way too much and also, no matter what they say, it is way too easy for buyer to leave negatives falsley and impossible to be heard to get them removed. Why sell with Ebay? Pretty much the only game tht works for stuff I sell. We don't have Craig's list..we have a local thing similar, but it really isn't profitable for what I sell. Also with PayPal..only game in town..I had an issue with them recently..some glitch in the system I'm sure..where I was charged twice for one shipped item and charged for an international shipping I did not make..filled out all the forms and they treated it like I was making a fraud case..which I wasn't..and did nothing. But again, only game in town so I just have to roll with it.

can you post here the link for leaving negative feedback for buyer? i'm on the site (not leaving feedback) but seeing options and there is only this>>>>>>

Rate this transaction
Positive
Report this buyer
I'll leave Feedback later

LOL WHAT joke. are they serious? so your choice as a seller is positive, report buyer, snort, and what???? rofl:rotfl2:

If you give a positive, you can write the issue in the space provided. I had a gal that didn't pay, found out through her feedback that she had a history of non payment. It was written in the feedback comments.

Nope. Not according to ebay rules and policies.

Leaving negative feedback with positive rating gets a warning from ebay!

this above from ebay site. You can't leave any negative comments on the positive + choice.

I am in complete agreement with you - I used to sell full-time (for many, many years) and no longer do it at ALL. What you wrote, plus how out of hand the fees have got, well, I just finally have had enough (I quit when they started charging me a fee on shipping - I charge actual shipping so either I had to charge a handling fee or take a loss. Nope.).
