I have a buyer who has good reviews, ask me to ship an item to an address in Florida and not to his ebay address in Ga. He sent this request through ebay message. What should I do? He said its for his mother in law.

I'm having red flags, but I don't want to make a good buyer mad. :confused3

You should only ship to the confirmed Paypal address.
It should be part of your terms of your listing, to reinforce eBay's policies and guidelines.

If the item is over $250 including shipping, you need to get adult signature required on delivery.

If the customer persists, you will have to explain the only way to do this if for you to refund the money, and for them to resend it with Paypal with the desired address that they want it shipped to as their address given with their payment.

When the payment is received, you can check your Paypal to see if it's eligible for seller protection.

I would only advise shipping something it you are eligible for seller protection, and don't forget about the adult signature if needed.

The only way I would do an exception is maybe for a previous customer, but even then it would put YOU at risk, not the customer.

That's what I thought so I will let him know. Thank you so very much!!

He can add extra addresses to Paypal. I've done it and if he's legit, he shouldn't have a problem doing it.

I often buy and have items shipped to another address. We no longer have a post office in our community, therefore I have items shipped to my work address andhave never had a problem with that.

If the buyer has good feedback and the item isn't really expensive, I have sent lots of things to grandchildren, etc. I had something sent to my sister in CA once. Silly to pay shipping twice. I even wrapped a gift once for a buyer who was late getting her granddaughter's gift out, she was so appreciative. One time I shipped to a different address and the item was costly so I got signature and insured it, I know still wouldn't have been covered by Paypal.

Thank you all!! He said it was fine to mail it to him first so that's what I did. At least now I know that a second address can be added to PayPal in case it ever comes up again.

Thanks again!!:thumbsup2

I have shipped to another address other than what was in Paypal. I just sent it insured with delivery confirmation. That way I would have proof it was delivered and if it did get lost it was insured. I always insure the item for it's value plus what it cost me to ship it so that if I have to completely refund them for a lost item that the post office has to pay me back the full amount.

The issue with his was that he could say that he never got the item. (Not that this buyer would have) With it being shipped to an address other than his address on paypal or ebay, he could request his money back and I would be out the item too. eBay would make me refund him. That was my concern.

You were correct in doing what you did. And he hopefully now knows to change the shipping address he is using BEFORE purchasing so that that is the address that shows for you to ship to.

I have had one buyer claim that she did not receive an item, when the tracking did show delivered. Paypal and eBay pull up the tracking and compare the city/zip code where the item shows delivered to the buyer's shipping address that they used. In my case, because it matched, they found in my favor and all was well. And it showed up on the buyer's doorstep a couple of days later, probably mistakenly given to a neighbor or something like that. In this case, had this been you and your buyer and had you shipped to his mom's address, they would have found in his favor because you had the item delivered to a city/zip that did not match his shipping address...and they would have automatically given him a full refund. (not saying he would have done this to you)

Moral of the story, you are not covered as a seller unless you ship to the exact address given as the shipping address at the time of purchase. If a buyer wants to change that address they need to re-pay with that new shipping address entered instead.

Thank you!! This item was not expensive but I still didn't want to take a chance and be out $20 plus dollars if something had gone wrong. ::yes::
