Ebay scams DCL items

What is the difference between selling the free video/dvd that was GIVEN to you by DCL (they don't ask you to return it) and selling a used Snow White video/dvd that you bought and no longer want to keep???

That's a thorny issue no thanks to the RIAA and similar organizations. The question is - what exactly do you own? Do you own the media, license to watch the content on that media, or both? With high-end computer software, for example, you typically only buy a license to use the software. Just because the software comes on a set of discs doesn't mean you can transfer (or sell) the license of that software to another party by transfering the discs. Think of video or music content as software and you have a similar issue. That said, you're not likely to get busted for selling Disney videos as long as the copy is legit and I personally don't have a problem doing it.

I also have no problem selling something I may have received for free. While it's shady selling something that someone can currently get for free (like the current vacation videos), I can see older ones being considered a collectible and thus costing whatever the market will bear.

The beef I have with folks taking free stuff to sell on ebay is the fact that by taking free stuff with the sole intent of selling it drives down profit and drives up cost for the rest of us.

Consider the luggage tags. And suppose they cost 2 cents per tag to produce. 2,000 passengers per cruise each with 2 pieces of luggage yields $80 per cruise worth of tags. Now if everyone were to take 10 each, 2 to use and 8 to sell, we're looking at $400 worth of tags per cruise. Now figure 3 cruises per week (1 Magic, 2 Wonder) and we're looking at $1200 per week for luggage tags or $62,400 for the year.

In the scheme of things, that ain't much money for a company like Disney. But if you think about all the little things that are taken legitimately or not, the "slippage" (as retailers call it) can add up quickly! It's sort of like the damage that would be done to CC if everyone took home a small scoop of sand or a seasheel.

Excellent point of view! I agree completely! :p

I have been buying and selling on ebay for years and feel if somebody can sell something they were given for free, more power to them, but the sad part is when people take more than they shoould with the purpose of selling them. Disney gives them out to people to use, people should not be ging down and grabbing handfulls to sell on ebay. I personaly love the little cheep pens they have on the ship, and yes, I have acquired quite a few. I like to give them away though. I work at a Country Club and give them to kids, and tell the families what a great time I had on the Disney Cruise. It makes me feel good to give a little gift and expeience, makes the kids feel good because they are getting something from Disney, and if anyone of the kids parents book a Disney Cruise, it's very cheep advertising.
Now the craziest thing I ever saw sold on ebay was a piece of half eaten French Toast that some girl claimed was part of a meal enjoyed by one of the Backstreet Boys. It sold for around $3000.00 if I recall.

I have to admit, that I bid on and paid $4.00 for the lotions and soap from the DCL. I booked a Cruise for my daughter's birthday and bought the Minnie soap and lotion and made her a gift basket with the brochure and video to present her with the "goodies." I know they're free on the ship, but I booked this trip we're going on next week back in February. Needless to say, she loved the basket, and refuses to open the tubes of lotion and soap, they're now on display in our bathroom. I guess people buy weird things that seemingly have no "value"...but some of us do crazy stuff for a sane reason.
