Ebay Scam victim!

I bid on an item on ebay and was notified that I won but when I tried to use paypal it would not go through. I got an email from the seller asking for payment through her paypal link not through ebay.This didnt sound right so I sent the email to security at Ebay and Paypal and it is a confirmed "Spoof email". Unfortunately because she listed items and I bid on them she got my real name and contact info from Ebay.I googled Chloe Ann Bryant and found out the real Chloe died in 2001. The address was also fake. I dont know how to stop this thief and keep her from using my name in her next scam. Any ideas?

Wait a minute, she didn't receive any money from you, did she? Are you sure the person you googled was this person? I once googled my son's name and pulled up a child molester who had been convicted!

Make sure you go thru the Report procedure with eBay. I'm not sure what knowing your contact information can profit her or hurt you since that information is so easily gotten from anywhere. What is your concern in that regard?

Lot's of people have the same names, so don't go by that. Did you look at her feedback? Does she have a good feedback rating? How many feedbacks does she have. Also, how did you look up the address? I would call the PO, as newer neighborhoods and houses do not always show up on those search pages right away. Do not go through the link in a email! Also, IMO ebay will always say it is a spoof email if it was not sent through them, that is my Opinion only. It does sound fishy though, so do go through the proper channels with ebay.

I already heard back from Ebay and Paypal. ebay security called the email a "spoof". it is made to look like an official Ebay or Paypal email but when you sign in it goes off site where thieves get your password,name,address and if you have stored your credit card info they get that. Mys credit card was my bank account debit card so I am wreck worried that this person has my info. I changed my PW,cancelled paypal account and keep monitoring bank. Because I just opened Ebay after I go married no one else would have my ebay info to try to login as was attempted. Ebay has confirmed I do not need to pay for the item as the whole thing was a scam. she had 100% positive responses but these people work in rings and could have created them. They all have yahoo or hotmail accounts and nearly impossible to track down.

I can google my name and discover that I am either a helicopter pilot in the Canadian Armed Forces or an expert in Chinese immigration to San Francisco working for the U.S. National Archives. I also died in WW1 while serving with a New Zealand rifle brigade.

If either of the first two possibilities were the truth I suspect I would have more money with which to plan my Disney vacations. If the third situation were the case I would certainly have a lot more free time.

I think there has been a misunderstanding. I did not assume this person was using a fake identity until Ebay confirmed it. I was just trying to track her down myself in the event she was stupid enough to be a thief and use her real name. There are some criminal masterminds who are kinda dim so I was hopeful. It turns out there is little hope they will find the real person.

I'm having problems with a Ebay seller right now and he has 100% feedback.
After I sent out my personal check he informs me that the wrong address is on his info. Now he wants me to send my $86 though Pay Pal. My bank charges to cancel a check. Still waiting to hear back on what he wants to do. Meanwhile this was suppose to be an Easter gift for DD. Makes me so angry. For sure she won't have it on time or at all.

No. But I had it saved under my Paypal account and I tried unsuccessfully several times to send payment to her before I emailed ebay to see if there was aproblem and found out it was all part of a scam. So, I had been entering my login and password over and over.Plus she has my contact info because this started with what appeared to ebay and me to be a legitimate auction.When you are the winning bid ebay provides the seller with your info and visa versa. Her info is all false.

Fortunately most people don´t have any problems using eBay. Considering the amount of people who do business through eBay I consider it impossible to secure yourself things like this ever happening. OP, hope this gets straightened out soon!

I have only had 4 transactions so I have not have a ton of experience but this has scared me off from using Ebay again.

I hope so do, but these things do seem to happen to folks who use eBay far more than folks who stick with established businesses.

Another reason to never use eBay.

I have a eBay rating of 1107 and all but five of those are from buying things. Only once in all the years I've been on eBay have I been ripped off and that was because the seller died and nobody took over shipping his stuff out. It was a $3 book. Had I wanted to, I could have gotten my money back from paypal but the money was so little it wasn't worth it. There were two other incidences where I filed to get money back from paypal and did in fact get it. So it all worked out fine. The money I have saved using eBay is staggering. Moreover, the unique and exciting birthday and Christmas gifts I've found have been great fun to give! You can find anything on eBay!

You hear about the bad experiences, but I don't recall seeing a thread entitled "everybody, share your good eBay experiences." If such a thread were started, you would hear tons of people telling you about their high ratings and how few problems they have had. You just gotta use some common sense about these things. There are simple things you can do to protect yourself. Never buy from very new sellers. Never buy from people with feedback ratings that are lower than 98 or 99%. And always read those negatives. Are people getting negatives for being slow shippers or are they getting them for not shipping at all? And finally, keep in mind that while some people don't like paypal, it can protect you from bad sellers; I make it a practice to only buy from sellers who use paypal.
