Ebay?? RE: Ending your auction early for someone??

Fee AvoidanceSellers must refrain from activity that circumvents eBay fees.

Ending a listing early to sell the item at a higher price to the winning bidder

Canceling a listing to sell the item to anyone who contacted the seller through eBay, or became aware of the item through eBay

Selling the item for $200 but showing a winning bid of less than $200 screws E-Bay.

Why didn't you just say it like that in the beginning? And then explain it like poohbear8 did. I totally understand now but didn't realize that when the transaction took place.

"It sounded like the winning "bidder" paid you more than what was showed as the final bid. You gave the impression this was done to reduce the commission due E-Bay."
No where does it say that I purposely did this for the purpose of reducing commission to ebay. How did you get that impression?
I also never said you were the one confused, I said I was.

When does ebay take the final value fee? I don't remember ever noticing that. Where can I see that amount in past auctions I've sold. Anyone know?

Desnik,

Go to Ebay and click on "Help". Type in Final Listing Fees. From there you can see how much they are.

I think you should be able to see what you have paid in fees this way: Click on "my Ebay" at the top of the screen. Then click on "My Account". Once there, there is a link for "Account Activity". I think the info you want will be there.

I haven't sold in awhile, but I hope this helps.

Peg

You can find our how much you paid in final value fees by going to "My eBay", then click on the "Accounts" tab. Under "Account Activity" select "View Invoice".

If the winning bidder had paid $200 on the auction and not $7.50, eBay would have been paid $6.12 instead of $0.39.

eBay will either bill you at the end of the month for all auction fees, including listing fees and final value fees. If you signed up to pay it with a credit card, they will charge it to your credit card. You can also pay it from your PayPal account.

Go to eBay and click on the "My eBay" tab at the top. Then click on the "Accounts" tab. Under the "My eBay Seller Account" heading, click on the view invoice link. Enter you password where needed and on the next page, you can call up the invoices for your auctions for any time period.

Looks like you may have unknowingly violated one of eBay's rules for sellers. Hopefully there won't be any consequences. eBay should have recovered a final value based on what you actually sold the item for, not the lower value that the auction ended at.

The way you worded your post I (wrongly) thought that one of the purposes of your strategy was to reduce E-Bays commission. I thought you understood how it worked.

I don't use E-Bay but knew about the fees. I though people using E-Bay would also know.

I revised my initial post. When I first posted I wasn't 100% certain I was correct. As a result of your post I double checked. Poohbear had the advantage of being a lot more familar with E-Bay than I am.

Well, I just want to say thank you to all of you who replied. You helped explain things I didn't even know about! Glad I figured it all out. I wasn't trying to get over on ebay. I know better for the future what to do if I'm in that situation again.
Thanks!
