I sold a pair of pants on eBay, and the buyer paid via PayPal last night. She sent me a message shortly after saying that she never updated her address on eBay and asked to send it to another address which is in another state. (The new address is actually not far from me. Since we had a Fort closure, a lot of people moved down to her old area). Anyway, PayPal has her old address also. Is there anything I should do in this situation? :thanks:

Technically speaking, by shipping to a different address, particularly where it's outside of the process, so to speak... you may not be covered under seller protection if she claims she never got the item.

That said, depending on the amount of money at stake, I'd likely just send them anyway.

I would probably send them as well. I have had people ask me to directly ship to people and I have if the item is not expensive. If it is expensive I want to ship to a verified address.

I would call ebay and ask their advice at the very least make sure all of this conversation is though ebay messaging. Ebay has full access to your account and can read all messages on their end. At least if it goes wrong they can see the person with the same ebay name/account that won the purchase asked you to mail it someplace else.

eBay does not provide phone support.

ebay does provide phone support - I have called them a handful of times and have always ended up with an okay answer. But like a PP said, you have to click through quite a bit to find the phone number when needed.

To the OP, in the future just be aware that shipping to any address other than the one provided for shipment at the time of purchase makes you then ineligible for seller protection. In this case, since it was a low dollar item, probably not a huge deal...but if you ever sell anything of greater value you should keep that in mind. You can refund the buyer through Paypal and then they can re-pay you with the correct address so that you are then covered.

I did have this come into play once - I had an item shipped that showed Delivered but the buyer was saying that they did not get the item. I was only covered because they were able to verify that the item showed delivered to the same city/zip code as the buyer's shipping address. If the city/zip code had not matched, they would have automatically found in the buyer's favor and given their money back.
