eBay question about shipping

Hello eBay experts. I have a couple of quick questions for you about shipping.

#1. What is a Tyvek envelope, where can I get them, and how much do they cost?

#2. When shipping clothes, do you ship them in a box or envelope? I'm looking for a way to keep the shipping cost down.

Thanks in advance for your help!:Pinkbounc

If you are planning on using large quantities, I would order from an office supply company such as Quill. Cost will vary by size ordered. I normally purchase large boxes of 50 or 100 bubble mailers from Quill and use these for items that I am not shipping Priority Mail.

If you are planning on shipping Priority (which can get pricey depending on weight), you can get the envelopes free from USPS - USPS Supplies (page 2 if it doesn't land on that page).

Tyvek is a reinforced type of envelope. Shouldn't tear or rip on you like a paper envelope.

One thing about the tyvek envelopes that I really like is that you can order them for free from the post office, then if the item you want to ship will cost too much to send via Priority you can turn the envelope inside out and ship it another way. I've done that numerous times, but I have my own scale and print my shipping labels from home. I do put an extra layer of tape on both ends of the package though since the seams show when you turn the envelope inside out. Actually you could do this no matter what and then at the post office if you decide to use Priority they can just stamp the package Priority.

And anything over 4 pounds I ship FedEx Ground. When you get over 4 pounds, FedEx Ground is cheaper than UPS or USPS 99% of the time and it's just a quick in most cases. Where I live, the FedEx counter is only a couple of miles from the Post Office so it's not a big deal to make a trip there if I need to. FedEx will send you supplies from their website for free too.

ANSWERS..

#1 - As stated, Tyvek envelopes, are simply envelopes that are reinforced and are stronger than the normal paper envelopes. You can get them at the post office for free.

#2 - As a frequent ebay seller/buyer, I have never sent/received clothes in a box before. Items have always been sent/received in an envelope; then again, shirts/shorts/pants easily fit in these types of envelopes (only dealt with one/two items per package).

then if the item you want to ship will cost too much to send via Priority you can turn the envelope inside out and ship it another way.

And of course you have agreed to not use them for anything other than priority when you ordered them from the post office.
If a "turned inside out" priority mailer comes through our post office, they will put a "postage due" stamp on it, and the buyer gets to pay the difference. That's only happened to me once, and I was not a happy camper (and I left a neg). Many people on other eBay lists post that my post office is not alone. My post office won't accept the package for mailing in the first place if you are using a Priority mailer and not mailing Priority.

By the way, for those who may argue that they don't order the envelopes, but pick them up at the post office, the envelopes say right on them "This packaging is the property of the US Postal service and is provided solely for use in sending Priority Mail. Misuse may be a violation of federal law. For myself, I will never do business again with a seller who uses these envies, since I would be afraid it's a reflection of their business.

I didn't know that. Thanks. Guess I didn't fully read and understand the terms. I've never had a buyer tell me that postage was due on items I've shipped this way, so I guess I got lucky.

I bought some (about a year ago) at www.uline.com. At that time they had the best price, but I think the min order was 25 or 50. Like I said it was a year ago so things may have changed. Good Luck.

Got some interesting news from my postmaster (ok I live in a small town so I am on a first name basis with my postmaster LOL) He said there was a memo sent out to post offices that they were to stop keeping large quantities of the priority packaging. Evidently the misuse of these packages is pretty bad so from now on if you need more than one or two priority mail supplies you will have to order them trough the web site. I guess this is their way to track use and misuse of Priority supplies. Don't know when it will be in effect in larger post offices but mine has stopped carrying a lot.

My PO does not keep a full supply either, I usually have to order mine. And YES, they are very particular about using their products inside out. Yes, you can get away with it but it is against the USPS "law".

I always send folded clothes in boxes, I think it keeps them neater.

Hi all,

I am about to start selling on E-Bay (as I just figured out the whole ING thing and how to give referrals.)

My question on shipping is:

I have a number of Reocrd Albums I want to sell as i dont envision ever having a turntable again - what is the best way to ship a LP and where can i get those supplies?

Thanks a bunch!

I think these are kind of pricey, but if you search through quill, you should find a wide price variety.
