I've recently sold about 100 items in the last month or so on eBay, I have one person who is saying that they haven't received their items, it was delivery to a school address so I remember posting it myself. I have checked my "my eBay" thingy and it says posted on 9/10/10 I use 2nd class to keep costs etc down.

Does anyone know what the procedure is when this kind of thing happens? I may have a receipt from the post office with their post code on it, otherwise I don't know where I stand with it? Any ideas
Does anyone

It is standard to wait for 14 days. Ask them to check around the school in case anyone else has the package and perhaps check their local sorting office. Unfortunately you will have to refund them and claim with the Post Office yourself. That way, you will hopefully avoid a neg or having your DSR's slammed. Hopefully the package will turn up.

You can make a claim against Royal Mail up to the cost of 100 1st class stamps I think.

Go to the website to contact them:

I think it's up to about £40 unless you paid extra. They won't let you claim for a while yet. I posted an item by recorded delivery and had to fill out forms when it went missing, only to be told that the address I had used was not recognised! I couldn't believe it.

If the person paid through paypal then they will file a dispute, you rely stating that this was sent and you have reciept from post office for the day which it was posted. They will generally ask certain questions then they will make a decision on whether you have to give a refund or not. Personally if you are selling lots on ebay I would just give a refund if its not too much money.

hi, over the years i have had the same problem my self of items going missing with the royal mail.
how many days since you sent the item by royal mail ? if its over 15 days then its lost in the post.
did you put a returns label on the item ? sometime it can be returned( even from america)

did you get a proof of postage when you sent the item? (this helps when claiming back from royal mail)

my self if the item is over £2.99 it goes by recorded only(except if a heavy item it goes by standard parcel).

you can claim back for the missing item from royal mail just go to the website.

This part is something i dont like about ebay( they will expect you to refund the auction price + the postage cost)

i hope it works out ok for you.
if you have anymore probelms. pm me

It was posted on the 11th October so it's only been a week.

No I didn't pay any extra, it's just some Yankee Candles, £7 plus P&P.

Thanks Les, yes I did get a receipt and the post office wrote the address on the receipt, I have just scanned this in and emailed it to the buyer. She was quite snotty on the email when I said could she check that someone else hadn't receive the parcel by accident - telling me that she was management and that she ALWAYS has her post handed to her personally! :rolleyes1

Also yes there was a return address on the parcel.

It is very annoying, as people moan about the P&P costs so there is no way that they want to pay for recorded as well.

I will see what she comes back with today.

Thanks for all your help guys!

She will get a refund automatically if she files an 'item not received' dispute with paypal. The only way that this can be avoided is if you sent it by recorded delivery and could input the delivery code. I would ask her to be patient (politely lol) and tell her that if her parcel does not turn up, that you will refund her in full on 24th Oct. It's a pain but at least it wasn't an expensive item.

i have to second that, since i gone to recorded delivery on 95% of my items i have not had any problem, i have found some area of the uk have bigger problems of items going missing.

at the moment i am a little bissy on the bay my self its paying for are honeymoon. :rolleyes1

If you have proof of posting you will be able claim back the cost from the Royal Mail, even though its a bit of hassle to do so :)

As Joolz said, wait until the two weeks are up, and if the candles still haven't arrived then give her a refund - although some sellers put the onus on the buyer to claim back from the Royal Mail (but this might inflame your buyer to leave you a neg!). Hope it all works out :)
