ebay novice-pkg. never came???

I'm pretty new to ebay and purchased a die cast coke truck from someone in Hong Kong a month ago using regular shipping. We have not received it and every time I email the guy he says it takes longer (I assumed it would). Now he says to wait a bit longer but it is my fault because I didn't purchase the insurance. I thought insurance was to cover damages?? Is it my fault - I would love to sell a bunch of stuff and never ship it and say it is the customers fault. What can I do now - or am I just stuck?

Contact ebay & file an inquiry... I usually only have to go through them as the seller (non-paying bidders) so I'm not sure of the process for the other side, but it's a start.

can't help you on what option you have. probably check with ebay or your credit card company.

But I think it goes both ways, because someone may have received an item and claimed it never arrived. Is it possible? Will it be difficult for a third party to decide?

My experience on buy/sell..
In general, when I buy I always add insurance if it is an option.
When I sell, I add the insurance cost as part of the shipping cost and insurnace is not an option. I always ship the items insured.

Not sure what others would say but on my auctions, I use delivery confirmation on all packages - my policy is , once I ship - my responsibility is over. (and I can prove shipping with the delivery confirmation - they are also sent the tracking number so they can track the package themselves.) The customer can purchase insurance if they want too and if the package doesn't arrive, then they can take it up with the post office.

Shipping over seas can take a really long time. I have a cousin in China and she just received Christmas gifts shipped last Dec !

Once I had purchased something( from a seller I had used before). And the Item had not arrived in 2 weeks. I emailed the seller, he insisted he mailed it. I emailed him again in a few days, still no sign. He went on vacation, and when he got back he had messages from several other buyers all saying they did not get their items. He only mails on one day per week. The seller went to the PO and there were all the purchases behind some boxes at the PO. Weird things happen. But I would stay on top of it. If you used a CC you have some recourse.

Actually I used paypal. I suppose the only thing I have learned is to pay for insurance - the problem is it would have doubled the cost of the item. I'm not out a lot of money it just kind of sucks. I will wait a few more weeks but I'm not happy either. When I sold an item on ebay I took it as my responsibility to make sure it arrived at its destination in good condition. I think if I ordered something from a mail order catalogue that I would be assured of it arriving. I will certainly rethink this whole ebay thing. The only other item I've purchased was total crap - live and learn.

Honestly, I think you should just wait a bit more.

My DW is the Ebayer in our family. I always hear her cheer and then say "OMG, it coming from Canada... great! extra long wait here"

Sure enough 3 weeks later her HOCKEY CARDS come in the mail. I can only imagine the length of time it would take for your package to enter from Hong Kong... Especially with standard shipping as you stated.

But if it doesn't come in within the next month, I would defintely contact E-bay... From what I gather from my wife (I am an EBAY skeptic) the buyers are protected very nicely against fraudulant activities. IF you paid via Paypal you may be even more so proctected as well.

Give it a little while though, after 9/11 customs are making it hard to receive any overseas packages in a timely manner.
