I got my first negative feedback in 6 years today!!!! I sold an item and after seven weeks of this guy giving me excuses for not paying ("Sorry, I've been busy at work"; "I need to verify your address"; "You still never gave me your address", etc.) I gave up and gave him ten more days to pay. He replied, "I will pay by paypal" but he never did, so I finally left him negative feedback. Tonight he left ME negative feedback. I am so miffed. In the first place, it was a Paypal only auction, he didn't NEED my address. I DID send it to him, three times, anyway. Funny that he got the emails I sent him EXCEPT the three with my address. It makes me so angry that he did that. I hope that people will take it for what it's worth; I have over 240 positives and now this one stupid negative.
Thanks for letting me vent.

You can post a reply to the negative feedback. There should be an option when you go into feedback where you state your claim where when future customers look at your feedback they can read your side of the story to see what you said the problem was. I used that when I used to sell on Ebay and I had a buyer do almost the same exact thing to me.

When i see only 1 or 2 negatives with that many positives i don't pay it much attention & will still bid on the item.

I've been ebaying for 6 years, too.

Be sure to respond to his feedback and let potential buyers know what you experienced. It reflects on him, not you.

BTW you could file to get this feedback removed, but it has to be a mutual thing with the buyer. Check eBay's TOS about removing feedback.

I agree with grlpwrd...the negative reflects on this other person. Before I purchase on Ebay I read the comments and when I see something as one-sided as this, I read between the lines!! As annoying and unjust as this other person's response is, people will still do business with you because of your other ratings.

I agree - I also read the negatives to find out why - something like that is completely understandable that he's just being a jerk & crummy on his part.

I'm a vet ebayer too and always read the responses to negative feedbacks if it's only one or two. Just post a response that explains. You should be fine, tho I see why you're mad! I would be too!

Bummer :(. I got my first negative this year.

Did you also file a Non Paying Bidder on him? I would have done that before leaving any negatives. The NPB might have bumped him off of eBay so you wouldn't have to worry about him. I would still file the NPB and block him from your auctions.

I let too much time elapse to file the nonpaying bidder thing. I didn't realize there was a 45 day limit for that. I actually considered just letting it go and not giving him a negative feedback just because I was afraid he would do it back; I decided that if I didn't, he would just do it to someone else. I did go back and post a reply but there really wasn't room to tell the story.
I guess I should know better than to always believe people will do what they say! Again, thanks for letting me vent!

Ugh! Some bidders are just trouble from the start. :(

I been Ebaying for awhile and I am in danger of getting my 1st negative! I order two Disney autograph books, and mailed my money order the next day (I won't do Paypal!). Six days after the auction ended, the sellers put an unpaid bidder alert thing on me - I never seen that before! I was miffed since the auction was not even a week old and I did sent the payment. The next day, the sellers got my money and are sending me my stuff, but they did not remove the unpaid bidder thing. I got to get on their case about that!

Ebay is really no longer for those like me, who won't do Paypal. No one wants to wait for a snail-mail money order. I may be done with Ebay after this transaction. Too many problems.

I haven't sold on eBay in a few months, but when I was I learned to be a stickler for my Terms of Sale. I too once waited (and waited and waited) for a bidder to send her $$ and missed out on the NPB time period. She finally sent me the money, but I swore to make it clear when I expected payment and stuck to that. I send a reminder at 7 days and a NPB at 10 days, but so far the reminder always works.

FWIW, I accept snail mail. I don't have to pay PayPal fees on top of the eBay fees :). Even so, the vast majority of people use PayPal and their credit cards.

I was too ignorant to keep a check on my feedback when I first started buying on e-bay several years ago and when I decided to look at it I had a negative feedback that I knew nothing about. It stated I did not pay and did not respond to e-mail. It was too late (I assumed) to respond but it upset me so much. It's been well over a year, but it still bothers me that it's there at all. I'm sorry you got burned by a creep. I hope you can find some recourse that will not allow your reputation to be harmed. I don't pay any attention to only one negative if the seller has a large # of positives and it sounds like you do. Good luck.

I got one of those. Luckily, I had paid with a check and was able to prove that the check had even cleared the bank already by the time the unpaid biller thing was issued!
I think (but I don't know for sure) that Ebay automatically sets up a reminder and the seller is supposed to clear it after receiving payment. If they forget, you get the notice.
