okay, back in the summer I buy this trumpet off ebay. school just started and band director say it is crap. end up buying a better one from Sam Ash. just now getting around to leaving feedback for seller. Of course, since this is a crummy product, my comments were not positive. Of course, seller responds saying i never contacted them. Of course not, I didnt know it was bad until kid started school. I am keeping original trumpet for backup purposes only. Now i am getting email from some "mediator" requesting a withdrawl of both neg. feedbacks. should I refuse, knowing other folks might get taken too? Can the neg. feedback the seller gave me hurt me? Thanks

Negative feedback can hurt you as well as the seller. If you feel that strongly tho, don't back down. You can refute the feedback in your forum to set the record straight for people that take the time to look.

Was the item truly misrepresented in the auction? I would never leave a seller negative feedback w/ out contacting them first and trying to resolve the issue.
How is the rest of the sellers feedback, do they have a lot of negatives?

Why did the seller give you negative feedback? Did he wait for you to give feedback before he posted his. Most people that I have dealt with leave positive feedback as soon as the payment is successful.

I would definitely leave it unless the negative is really bringing down your rating.

I use to sell on ebay as well as being a buyer. I tried very hard not to leave any neg. feedback. I never had any problems with something that I bought and only 1 problem with an item that I sold. The buyer e-mailed me and we resolved the issue, and good feedback was left for both of us. As both a buyer and seller I always look at feedback and if I see some neg. I immediately don't purchase from that buyer. Feedback works for both the buyer and seller. I think you should have contacted the seller with your concerns and possibly something would have been worked out to your satisfaction. Good sellers rely on positive feedback and most of the time will work with an unhappy buyer. Some sellers in their terms of service state that they will cancel a bid from a buyer who has neg. feedback. Like the other poster mentioned if you feel strongly about the neg. you left, then leave it, if you want to change your mind and leave a neutral, get in touch with the seller and mediator and let them know. IMHO, I think that neg. feedback should be left as a last resort if all other communication with buyer/seller fails. Hope this helps.

Thanks for replies so far. I am a good buyer. I always pay right away, and leave postive feedback(except for this once). I feel the product was misrepresented as the seller said that it retailed for close to $600. I paid a little over $100 for it. It MAY be worth that, but not $600! I should have known better, it was too good to be true.

My thoughts exactly. It's ebay etiquette to NOT leave negative feedback without trying to resolve any issues with the seller first AND I don't think it was appropriate to leave negative feed back so many days later either. It isn't the sellers fault that you did not know much about the product you were buying.

Negative feedback can hurt both parties and in this case, as an outsider I think it should be withdrawn.

Yes. I sell on Ebay and state in my auctions I will cancel bids from buyers with more than two negatives, and I check all my buyers feedback they leave for others.

Some people unfortuantely leave negative feedback for sellers like it's going out of style and if I see a potential buyer has left a lot of negatives, I will contact them and ask them about the situation.

I have canceled bids from people who refused to tell me.

*Was the item misrepresented in the auction?

*Did your childs teacher tell you why the item was no good?

*Just because the teacher says it could not have retailed for $600 does not mean it didn't. The seller may have been ripped off when THEY bought it and not even known it.

*Does the seller have any other negatives?

*Have you made any contact with this seller since you bought the item?

My personal opinion, I'm sorry to say, is if I were the mediator in this situation, I'd have to take the sellers side. You purchased this item months ago and are just leaving negative feedback now. This person probably assumed you were happy with the sale and just forgot to leave feedback. Unless of course the listing claimed the item was brand new and in perfect shape, but even then, I'd question why it was not brought up when you recieved it.

Just my opinion.

Did you use Paypal? Paypal will 99% of the time side with the buyer, even if the seller has done no wrong regardless of the circumstances. If you feel that strongly that you were wronged, you can always use Paypal to charge them back, although I think it's a very mean thing to do.
