Ebay item shows delivered to wrong state...

So I ordered something on 3/28 for my son's Easter basket. The seller shipped it right away and it was estimated to be delivered within 2-3 days first class mail. I checked the tracking on Thursday 4/2 because I had not received it yet and it says it had been delivered two days ago (3/31) to Winston Salem, NC. It clearly shows my correct shipping address but I live in another state! I messaged the seller and they responded right away and said they shipped it as soon as I paid and they don't know where it went but maybe the tracking was messed up. I told them I hoped they were right and maybe it would show up in the next few days. Well it still hasn't showed up and I messaged the seller on Saturday and they have not responded. I cannot file a claim for not receiving it because the tracking shows it was delivered in NC. Any idea how I can file a claim and get my money back?

Maybe the numbers in the zip code were transposed or something. Paypal should have some kind of option where you can choose to dispute it, and if you can't figure it out, try calling them to ask exactly how to do it. I found this phone number on their website: 1.-888-221-1161

The seller or you should be able to contact whoever shipped it and ask exactly why it was shipped to the incorrect address. Sounds like the shipping company is at fault, if the address on the package was correct.

The seller needs to deal with this, even if it is the fault of the postal service. Ask her for a refund or replacement item.

I assume you paid with PayPal? If the item wasn't delivered to your PayPal verified address, you can file a claim for non-delivery. Contact them.

Yes, you can. PayPal requires proof of deliver to your confirmed address. For first class mail, that's only as accurate as the zip code. Verify that your address is correct on both your PayPal and eBay accounts and just file a claim for "item not received."

it says it had been delivered two days ago (3/31) to Winston Salem, NC. It clearly shows my correct shipping address but I live in Maryland!

I'm not sure I get what you are saying. You say that it says it was delivered to NC, and then you say it shows your correct shipping address (NC?), but you live in Maryland?

My address is correct but item shows delivered to NC. I tried to file a claim for not receiving item but it says 'your item was delivered on 3/31'

Here are pictures if this helps... first picture is what shows on ebay, the second is the tracking info from USPS.com

I think the way this should work is you get a refund from the shipper and the shipper puts in a claim to USPS. Even their system says it was lost. I don't think you can put in a claim to USPS.

There should be an alternate although less automated way of filing a claim through eBay, namely by writing an email vs clicking on a procedure.

Some person at eBay can quickly figure out that something went wrong by inspecting just the first of the two pictured items shown above.

If you fly to Portland, Oregon and your bags go to Portland, Maine, then whoever collected your money, namely the airline, is still responsible. So if the eBay item you won went to the wrong address, it remains the seller's responsibility to get the item (or a duplicate) to the buyer or to issue a refund. Sincee eBay has a buyer protection procedure, it should assist in resolving the issue.

I would call and speak to eBay customer service. They should be able to pull up the info on your account and see the tracking and delivery status.

Call Paypal and talk to a human. If they can't/won't fix it, call your card issuer. Even if it was a debit card, you can dispute the charge and get a refund. It might take a few days but it's better than nothing.

PayPal or eBay will handle it just fine. It was not delivered to your zip code and that's all you'll need to be protected. Message the seller, and then let him know you are filing a claim through eBay or PayPal. Keep in mind this is NOT his fault and negative feedback is not warranted here. It's a USPS screw up, plain and simple.

There is no point in calling USPS or going to your local post office because there is nothing they can do. The item was delivered to an address they don't even have so the item itself cannot be recovered unless the person who received it sends it back to the seller out of the kindness of their own heart. It's also possible the recipient could take the package to the post office and have it rerouted to you.

IF you request a refund based on item not received and you win and then eventually the item shows up, you will have to give the seller back his money of they see it was eventually delivered.

It's an easy case for you to win.

I agree, call eBay and they will open a claim for you. It isn't enough that it just shows that it was delivered in general. It has to match your zip code, and it doesn't. Good luck!

There is something weird with the tracking info. If you notice the seller must live in Winston Salem NC and it was delivered to Winston Salem NC one zip code number off. That is strange

Have you heard back from the seller? It's the sender who needs to file a lost item claim with USPS. Even if it shows delivered they will do at least look at it. Usually what happens is all of the items someone is shipping as assigned a batch. Only the barcode for the batch is scanned initially, then all of the items get scanned later. It's possible that yours just wasn't actually dropped off. Or I wonder if the item was returned to the seller. You need to read up on the eBay and PayPal dispute timelines, you don't want to run out of time waiting for a response.

Perhaps it was returned for insufficient postage?

File the claim. The tracking clearly shows it was shipped to the wrong place. Not your fault. Paypal will refund you.
