After a long hiatus from selling on ebay, I have listed several items in recent weeks in an effort to clean out some closets and unload many unused items that I forgot to return to stores etc. Wow, have their policies changed, and wow it is so frustratin to sell now. I used to sell on ebay alot in the early days, back when you actually could make some money on it. THen, they got really greedy and their fees got ridiculous and made it not profitable. So when I downloaded the mobile app and saw how much quicker it would be to list items (I loved how I could just take a photo of the item and list it immediately as I was cleaning out a closet) I decided to give it a go again. Apparently they realized that they needed to cut down on listing fees because I was pleased to see that they are back to reasonable. That was the main thing that stopped me from selling before. However, thier policies are annoying and there are so many loopholes. Every auction I list clearly states I will only ship to US and they are now flooded with international buyers who still bid on my items!!! Then I have to try and cancel the auction, then the buyer doesn't understand english and refuses to cancel the transaction, then I need to wait longer and file and unpaid item case...or if the buyer does pay, I have to refund money and try to cancel and take a hit from paypal. SO ANNOYING! and after all of this, now a seller cant leave negative feedback about a buyer!!!!!!!!!!! WHat is that about??? Making me nuts, I swear - after my current auctions close, I'll never go back to ebay again to sell.

yes, ita. where will you sell?

When you use ebay mobile you have to first go through the desktop site on your computer to set your auction settings. You can set it so your items can only be bid on by US purchasers. I don't know exactly how to do this but I remember doing this when I started selling things a few months ago.

also, check about free listings. I list everything for free and only pay if the item sells.

Yes, you still need to get on ebay on your computer to set up all your settings. The mobile app is just not robust enough. It can do some things, but not all.

Exactly. The real site has where you can put your auto-setting to US only plus some other types of people you'd want to block (those with non-paying strikes, etc).

Then you can go use the mobile app.

I recently went back to Ebay.

MY gripe is that after 3 years or more, they STILL don't have Turbolister for apple computers. I had to BUY software to do my items. (Garage Sale, $40). Took me a long time to get the hang of it, too. I like doing about 10, and setting them to go up at a certain (later) time, usually in the evening.

I do like the mobile app for other things, like watching my items, love the push notifications, and I can answer questions from buyers where ever I may be.

oh I still leave negative but in the positive box. I see a lot of sellers do this. I put plenty of symbols to draw attention to it, so people see it. After you leave feedback then you cancel auction and get your fees back.

Ok - so I'm on the real site and just don't see where to go to block international users from my auctions. Can someone point me to the right tab?

Ok - thanks, I have changed my settings and hopefully that will put an end to the international buyers. I have had 4 in the last week. My favorite was the one in the Azerjban Republic that thought I would ship a trampoline that I listed as local pick-up only. :confused3 Then I canceled that transaction when they never paid and sent a second chance offer to the other bidder , who was in Brazil!!!!! Arghhh! had to go through the cancellation again. Did they really think I would ship it for FREE! For something I listed for pennies, because I just wanted someone to come take it apart and haul it out of here? None of them can communicate in English, so resolving a problem is impossible.

Oh I have another question... one one of the auctions, I sent a cancllation request so the buyer could cancel without penalty. I explained I don't ship to addresses outside of the US. They denied the cancellation and in broken English stated that they would be paying tomorrow (which they haven't - clearly these international buyers don't understand how we roll here) SO, I tried to file an unpaid item case. But EBAY won't let me file an unpaid item case because it says I have requested to cancel the transaction and it isn't resolved. That cancellation request is closed. Now what do I do? I just want the final item fee credit.

Stuff like this I would only list on Craigslist. I would probably list if for free.

A buyer can easily get that kind of feedback removed if they contact ebay. You might end up with a warning from ebay too.

You have to call ebay. They will fix it. In the future, don't try for a cancellation and just file the non-paying bidder alert. Reason being is that an international bidder shouldn't be able to pay for an item if you didn't specify shipping costs to them.

I'm a new seller on ebay and am currently taking a short break. I got so frustrated with Ebay.

Even though I was listing the shipping and making sure my choices showed that the buyer would be paying shipping based on where they live, things were still showing up on auctions as free shipping.

I caught most of them and cancelled the auction before anyone even bid but it's still very frustrating that every other item I posted showed as free shipping when it shouldn't.

I contacted ebay and it turns out it's a known problem and they haven't fixed it!

I'm trying to sell most of my Hallmark ornaments and now is the time to sell them on ebay but the shipping issue is driving me nuts.
I wish they would sell on Craig's List but they aren't so it's either Ebay or nothing right now.

No there is no being nice. Additionally with a non paying strike they are unable to leave feedback, but with a cancellation they can still leave you a negative. It's just better to be safer.

Even with a strike they can leave a neg. It is if they do not respond to the NPB alert at all that they cannot leave fb.

I'm done with selling on ebay. I think the biggest problems started when people realized they could earn a living on ebay, rather than cleaning out closets and basements. Plus, buyers have been completely unreasonable. I sold some Mickey Crocs that my kids grew out of and said they were used on a few trips. One of the buyers complained that I misrepresented the wear! I told her Disney trips mean MILES of walking and even showed a picture of the soles. That was my last sale.

I also tried to sell a set of cookbooks but ebay limits the shipping cost based on the category of "books" so I couldn't charge for the cost of the shipping, so never mind.

It's a shame - it used to be a great place to buy and sell. It's no longer the world's biggest yard sale. Now it's a mall!
