eBay- How would you feel about this?

I bid on a DVD on ebay recently- one that my neice wanted for Christmas. I paid about a day after the auction ended, and thought I was all set. About ten days later, I got an e-mail from the seller that said that they did not have the dvd in stock, and they refunded my money.

I looked at their feedback and saw that they have done this several times. It's quite frustrating to me, because it cut nearly two weeks out of the time I have to find the gift before Christmas. Why list items if you do not actually have them? It takes business away from honest sellers who actually do have the item!

I debated on if I should leave negative or neutral feedback, and decided to leave negative. I think it is only fair to warn other potential buyers that the item they buy may not even be available.

Anyway, the seller then left negative feedback on my account as a retort. I'm a little upset about that, since I've only got positive otherwise, but I can't say I didn't expect that they may do it.

How would you have handled the situation? Would you have left negative feedback, neutral, positive, or none? If you were the seller, would you have left negative feedback in response to someone who left it for you?

I'm sorry for venting here, but this made me really grumpy! I could have bought the dvd from an honest seller who actually had it for sale, and now I have just over a week to find it!

I'd really appreciate your opinions, even if you totally disagree with me!

you were right to leave negative feedback! At the very least, he could have told you right away that he did not have the DVD in stock and not ten days after the fact. I am curious what he left you for feedback? What could he possibly have negative to say about you? You paid for the item in a timely matter, you did your end of the deal! Was it just retaliation for leaving him negative feedback?

Is there a way to contact ebay and have them remove the negative feedback from him? I would be angry too, esp since he had no grounds to do it!

I agree with you; had they emailed you within 48 hours I would have let it go, but more than a week!

I would reply to the feedback they left for you and just state that the seller informed you 10 days later that the item was unavailable and that you found it unacceptable.

I just noticed the dates in your signature; we are going to be at WDW the same time. I'll be there the 10th-15th.

Their negative feedback was deserved yours was not!

I have been looking at the PS3 and Ebay made a rule that they have to have a picture with the sellers name and a reciept in the picture so they cant say they have them and dont.

I think it was just them getting back at me for leaving them negative feedback.

My feedback to them was "Please don't list items that you don't have."

Theirs for me- "Informed buyer that the item was unavailable & refunded and he resorted to leave bad feedback"

(They leave me negative AND call me a man? Mean! :rotfl2: )

They've had 48 negatives in the past month, but since they sell so much, they still have 98.5% positive. I'm nowhere near as active, so their one negative dropped me down to around 90% positive. Yuck!

Lesson learned, I guess- read through people's recent feedback before you bid! If I'd noticed how many negatives they get before I bid, I would have run the other way!

Luckily I found the DVD my neice wants from another seller- hopefully this one actually has it!

And Linzybrooke- maybe I'll see ya there! Refer to the handy Crystal Spotting Guide in my signature! ;)

You are allowed to respond to negative feedback. I would respond with
Retaliatory feedback. Seller listed an item he didn't have.
Just remember to keep it factual.

Always read the feedback before you buy. Don't just look at the percentage.

I agree with this post.

One of the reasons why I am hesitant to use ebay is for circumstances like this. That seller has a lot of nerve to leave you negative feedback when all you did was hold up your end of the bargain by paying. No matter, karma is coming around for a person like that. It just isn't fair or ethical.

You can also report them to ebay if this is a pattern they have of not having an item in stock.

You did the right thing (IMHO). Their feedback shows what idiots they are. "item was unavailable"!! Who does that?! People who take the time to read your feedback will understand you did nothing wrong.

Leave the negative feedback and don't give it a second thought. Obviously they are going to respond defensively, but when I bid, I always want to see everything that's being said. If there are similar negative feedbacks such as yours, it's a sure sign that something is going wrong with that seller.

Your feedback is for prospective buyers and nothing more. Don't take it personally. You have every right to warn other buyers of the potential problem.

Definitely report him to eBay so that they can watch this trend of him auctioning off product he doesn't have to sell. They need to have a word with him on this practice. :sad2:

Moral of the story: use AMAZON.COM! :thumbsup2

Not necessarily. I ordered an item off Amazon on November 23, it had projected ship date of November 29-December6. I checked my account daily to determine if the item had debited, no it had not. On December 2 I attempted to contact the vendor directly, as Amazon directed, with no results. On December 6 I contacted Amazon directly by phone, and was told that the item was out of stock at the vendor, would not deliver to AMazon till December 24-27. Therefore it was automatically being cancelled. Okay, I found the item on eBay, did buy it now. Still no contact from Amazon vendor confirming the cancellation. Well, you guessed it, I get an email from Amazon and the vendor that the item has been shipped, after the "cancellation". I now have two of these items and am trying to get return papaerwork from the vendor so that I can get a refund. :furious: :furious: This is my LAST Amazon purchase, I can tell you that.

I would respond to his feedback by posting "Retaliatory feedback from seller, who listed an item he did not have, thus causing me to lose 2 weeks of time I could have spent looking for the item. The seller did refund my money without issue."

And I'd report him to E-Bay.

I know people love E-Bay, but I have never entirely trusted the whole thing. But I am a kook, so what do I know? ;)

ITA! ::yes::

One of my granddaughters wants "How to Deal" starring Mandy Moore.

I looked for it on e-Bay and Amazon and decided to go with Amazon. Even though the e-Bay person had mostly good feedback I just felt more confident I would get it in time from Amazon. It came just a few days after I ordered it.

Just wondering why people do this.

He listed the item, has to pay e-bay.

Item sells, he has to pay a FFV based on how much it sold for.

Why pay all this money to ebay when you have to give refunds to the buyers? :confused3

his negative feedback to you just shows how stupid he is..."informed seller that item was unavailable"...hello?! You are only supposed to list on ebay if you have the item available! :furious:

I wouldnt worry about the negative. I was reluctant to leave negatives for non paying bidders because I knew they would leave negative as well. I wish ebay wouldnt let nonpaying bidders leave negatives but I guess they really have no way of knowing if the person really paid or not.

I would have left negative FB. That's the main reason I have two accounts: one for selling and one for buying. I feel free to leave the FB deserved without worrying about my seller account. There is no excuse for canceling your order 10 days after then end of the auction. None. I can accept that sometimes mistakes are made ... I sell books on Amazon and sometimes I can't find the book that just sold. In that case my buyer knows within TWO business days. NOT 7-10! I would leave a factual account of what the seller did to you as a response to his negative. Avoid being overly emotional with ALL CAPS and lots of !!!!!. His negative won't hurt you, don't worry about it.
