For the first time ever I have someone who wants to make a return on a pair of Nike shoes. She said that she thought they were pink and black, when clearly it said red and black and she sent a question asking me that too, and I told her red and black.

What do I do? I don't even have access to those funds yet. I'm real worried about this transaction because it took her over a week to even pay.

Advice?

I would wait till you have access to the money before you do anything. Next time even wait to ship after their payment has cleared...just so you know you have the money. Once you have access to the funds, then you can proceed. She pays for the return shipping, then once you receive the shoes back in their original condition you refund her money.
Good luck!! :goodvibes

ETA: I guess technically if you said the shoes were red and black...but she is saying she thought they were pink...she really has no grounds for returning them since your description was accurate. I guess it just depends on if you are willing to risk negative feedback...even if you did everything right. Have you contacted Ebay to see what their rule is? They are usually pretty prompt in answering these type of questions.

I'm real nervous about this transaction. She sent way to many questions and then I worked with her to delay her payment for over a week. I just don't feel good about this at all.

I guess I will contact ebay and see what they say.

If you refund the money you will not be out the fees. I forgot where the link is but if you doing it through your selling page, they will give you back the fees. I think you would be out whatever paypal charges you though.

If you issue a PayPal refund through ebay, PayPal should credit back the fees as well. They did for me when I had to issue a refund last week

Ok, so I need to wait until she returns the shoes and then for the funds to be released to me then issue a refund through ebay, right?

I would let her know you are waiting to have access to the funds. Once the money is in your account you can let her have the option of returning the shoes.

Ebay can be great....but can be so frustrating when it doesn't go smooth!
Best wishes to you!! :goodvibes

Next time someone asks too many questions just stop responding and add them to your blocked list. That way they can't buy from you.

Good idea. I had my doubts about this from the beginning. I even insured them in case she tried to pull something on that end with not getting them or something. It's very frustrating!

Now it doesn't matter if the listing says you accept returns or not. Difficult buyers can open a significantly not as described case and ebay will force you to take a return.

I saw that. I think I would be better off just letting her return them but what if she pulls something and does not send MY shoes back and sends something different instead? I'm worried about that now. These were $160. Shoes that I sold for $80. I should have marked them or something. :rolleyes2

I was looking at her feedback and she gets good feedback, except for one and I contacted that person to see how it went and she said that she ended up keeping the shoes. They were much cheaper so my guess is it wasn't worth her time.

I think this buyer needs her money back and it has nothing to do with the shoes, especially since it took her so long to pay.

It sounds like your listing was as described...so I would hope Ebay wouldn't let her file a dispute and win. :confused3

Ebay Policy-
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/buying-practices.html

"Not allowed

Returning a different item (e.g. a used or older model of the same product or an empty box)

Not returning the item as it was sent to you (e.g. returning a TV without the remote control)

Returning an item that has been damaged after being delivered

Claiming an item is not as described in order to circumvent a seller's return policy

Not following the terms of the seller's return policy

A pattern of purchasing items and receiving excessive refunds"

It also says "Buyers aren't allowed to threaten to use Feedback or detailed seller ratings to force a seller into:

Providing goods or services that weren't included in the original item's description or purchase price
Giving a refund
Accepting a return
Other situations are covered in our Feedback extortion policy"

I sent her a message saying that they were listed as red and black and that all three pictures clearly show that. I told her that I would refund her once she returned them to me and when the funds were available to me, which is not for several more days. I have not heard back yet but I'm sure she will return them.

I'd call Ebay. They have access to your messages and they will see that you answered her question. Go through the proper channels, do not have her send back or refund her money unless Ebay or PP says to do so. That is the only way you guys are both covered.
