I got a $50 goft card from amazon.com for Christmas that I'm not going to use so I thought I'd sell it on ebay. The bidding is almost over and it is selling for $112.50. Needless to say this has got to be some sort of scam.

I don't have a lot of ebay experience, what am I supossed to do?

Thanks!

What are the feedback levels of the people bidding? And have you looked at their histories and where they are located?

If you are the one that I see that just ended you can contact the buyer about cancelling or just wait until the payment clears and complete the transaction. I will never understand why people pay more for gcs but they do. I've had it happen several times myself and I always wonder why?

The winning bidder has an 8 for feedback and just started the ebay account on 12/31. The other things they bought were iTunes gift cards.

They are located in the US, but the whole things is really fishy.

I don't want to end up having the Paypal payment reversed and I end up owing Paypal a bunch of money if it turns out this is some kind of stolen identity or something.

I would suggest first making a copy of the card with the serial number showing.

Spend a little extra money to send the card "Certified Mail with Return Receipt"

If possible after you mail the card, go to the web site to check the balance and print the result.

And if the person complains you will have all sorts of proof.

Also, if payment is not promptly made file a dispute with eBay to get back your fees.

I'd be very worried that he gets the card and claims there is no money on the card. Not only would he get his $112.50 back, you'd be out the original $50.

I really can't see how you can PROVE there was still money on it when it left your hands. You could easily press the buy button 2 seconds before it is in the mail, or reaches it's destination.

Some sites do not have up to the minute tracking of how much money is on the card. If that happens, you are screwed. From what I've read, eBay/PayPal usually side with the Buyer.

I'd rather take the Neg feedback hit than lose the $50. You can always buy $50 of golf popular products off the website and eBay the actual items. That seems a safer bet than this Buyer with 8 feedbacks of all GCs, especially if the others are at or above face value of the GCs. He could have easily gone to the actual websites and bought them out right for face value.

Yeap sounds a little crazy but then again I have seen people pay more than what they buy something in the store for. I would think they may be planning to file a claim like someone else said as you can not really prove how much was on the card. However, if they are buying several cards and planning on doing that then it seems Ebay would easily figure out what they are doing.
