I need help! I so rarely sell on ebay, but with an upcoming trip to Disney and our $$$ stretched I figured what the heck. I listed some clothing items. In my listing I put that I would only ship in the US. Well, my last auction just ended (everything went wonderful up until then) and a Canadian buyer won my auction. I decided I will send her the item, but now I am trying to figure out shipping (this is why I only ship in the US - I can NEVER figure out foreign shipping).

Does $11.50 seem "right" for basically a t-shirt being shipped in a shirt box in a large envelope??? The item is going to British Columbia. I feel horrible because the shipping cost is almost 5x the amount the winning bid was!

Thanks!

Technically, if your auction specifically states "USA only", you can refuse to sell to the winner since they violated the conditions of your auction.

To be honest, I've shipped to Canada many times with no problems and postage is about equal or just a little more than within the USA. Do what I do if I'm not sure of the postage: package it up and take it to the post office to weigh and price, then contact the buyer with the total including shipping to Canada.

Does it have to go in a shirt box? USPS has a flat rate global priority mail envelope that's $7.50 to ship up to 4 lbs., and I think a t-shirt would fit in there fine.

THANK YOU!
I don't mind doing it, I was just avoiding the extra hassel. This is a pretty small box that could fit in a postal envelope. I think I will resend the invoice with the correct shipping amount then. I saw the $7.50 rate on the USPS site, but wasn't sure if it applied to me.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

I hate when that happens, I was selling a bomber jacket and a guy from germany emailed and asked if I would ship to germany, I said, Sorry no, just in the USA...well the idiot made a bid the last minute..then I had to figure out shipping, it was 75.00 (heavy jacket) then he wanted to wire transfer money to my account and wanted my bank account number..at that point I said forget it, don't send anymore, I am seling tot he next bidder, that guy paid in a day, I shipped it out no problem!

For a T-shirt, it will probably be light enough to ship at Airmail Letter Post for under $3. For small items like that, I wrap them well in tissue paper, put them in a large ziplock bag to protect from moisture, and mail in a manilla envelope. You will need to fill out the right form at the Post Office, though.

I have often refunded shipping overcharges after an item has shipped. If you are not sure, then charge the higher rate and refund the excess after it ships.
